Why do modders hardcode game version?

I´m not into modding/scripting myself, so i would not know if its possible to check if a current version is > minimum required.

If possible, please use it.

Its really annoying for erveryone, when a mod comes with a version-check, stating you need version X, and bethesda releases version X.001, and the mod stops working.

you do realize this check exists for a reason , right?

since game updates change many things about the game , these updates could break mods

or in a more common case , these updates break the script extender , upon which many mods are built

so whenever Bethesda releases an update , mod authors need to check if their mods are broken by this update

if not , than nothing changes . if however the update breaks the mod , it requires updates by the author , and requires players to use the updated version

now , you should note that you aren't forced to update your game , and there are plenty of tutorials for preventing this

in which case , you need to make sure you have the appropriate versions of mods you wish to use (some mod authors remove previous version , for their own reasons)

so if you just prevent your game from updating , you don't need to worry about updating your mods and such

and to summarize , if a mod does a version check on your game , it probably means that the latest version is the minimum version required . these aren't implemented just for show , and authors don't do this extra work for shits and giggles . if you want to put some blame , blame Bethesda for breaking mods and the script extender with their updates (and hope that they are true to their words , and future updates won't break the script extender)
