Texture Modding and Freezing/Infinite Load

Hey guys, looking for some help here

I recently decided to start modding DAI and found myself with a strange problem. I wanted to alter some textures and after extracting, replacing and loading the game it usually does one of 2 things: freeze or gets stuck loading.

I've have two diferente occurrences:

Adding tattoos - Game stuck on launch. Doesn't even get to the title screen.

Replacing Vivienne Face Textures - Really, really strange. Gets stuck in an infinite load in her recruitment mission (can't even load in) but works fine in saves here she's already recruited (like when she's standing in Haven).

Since I was modding MEA just a while ago i'm using the Intel Texture Plugin for Photoshop and saving in:

Texture Type: Color (since I heard DAI doesn't support Alpha)

Compression: BC1 4bpp (Linear) Also DTX1 compatibility. No alpha channel.

No MIP Maps.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you're editing images, you need to use Mod Maker v16 or 17, not 19 (use this for ebx edits).

You can get older versions here.

Also, you should be creating MIP maps. Not sure why you wouldn't be.

Finally, since you're creating these mods now, you might as well make Frosty compatible versions as well and upload both. (If these are going to be uploaded, that is.)

Oh! Well that makes a whole lot more sense now!

I don't know, I've read so many tutorials... Mostly from 2015, in was in one of them. So generate MIP maps?

Can I run Frosty and DAI Tools mods together? Or is it like MEA with Frosty and MEAmod? Because as far as I know there is still no converter.

Thank you so much!

Yes, you can run them together. You can even have mods loaded with the Mod Manager and also play the game with Frosty Mods, since they use separate folders.

Like, if Mod Manager has mods A, B, C, when you launch DAI normally, you will get mods A, B, C. If you have mods D, E, F loaded with Frosty, and launch the game with Frosty, you will get mods D, E, F, but not A, B, C.

As for the Mod Maker and Frosty Editor, those use their own DAI caches that are saved in the program folder with that utility, so you can run both tools at the same time. This is useful if, say, you're more used to finding things with the Mod Maker, or prefer that layout, but want to be able to change things with Frosty Editor.

As for the MIP question, as I said, I don't know why you wouldn't create them in the first place. I find guides that don't explain the reason for something to be poor.

Well, they are pretty old... I figured it was something up with the way the mod tool works.

I also didn't know that. Seems worth a look, specially with mesh import and perhaps DAI mod conversion in the horizon...

Thank you! It's good to know some people are still around and care :)
