UR84N_54MUR41
Okay. Um, I took all the mods off.And I ran the game.I made a new character. And it crashed.Right where the rats come out of the wall at you. I am currently downloading new drivers for my NVIDIA 7900 GT/GTO.I noticed that whenever I play ANY game, the screen will (in the first 5 minutes) go fuzzy, andI can still hear the game playing underneath. If I pause it, then the game will pause underneath, but hte screen is fuzzy.I hit CNTRL+ALT+DELETE and then it takes me to the desktop and I CLOSE out of the Task Manager, and then reenter the game, and it works. For every other game, this works. I can go back to playing, usually uninterrupted. However, when thsi happens in oblivion, and i return to the game from the desktop, I cannot move the mouse even though I can see the pause menu.I can still access the dropdown menu via ~, but I can't do anything else. bben46
Oblivion does not like to share the computer. It's possible you have some other program running in the background. Any program that periodically runs some process in the background can cause game freezes or crashes. xfire has been known to do this. using alt-tab to change to another application can cause problems too. UR84N_54MUR41
Okay! So, I installed the most recent update for my video card.I then played other games to see if they would crash. I played for hours...wonderful, blissful HOURS. I realized Oblivion MUST work now.And sadly it is now the ONLY game on my computer that crashes now.It crashes the same way as before.Fuzz-desktop-freeze. FDF. Note: this is Vanilla Oblivion. I did not have anything big running in the bacground. Not even virus control. Ewww. No fun. If anyone has an idea, or knows someone who can help, I will follow any leads!Lemme know what's up, I'm still eager to find a solution. =] Take Care
Kikihamster
hi guys! as I read above, you are in touch with the "rens beauty pack".I have the same problem with showing the hairs, and I really dont know what to do to show them. could you please tell me in details what did you do to get this stuff worked fine?maybe I'm too blonde or my english is too bad so I hope you could explain it to me.
UR84N_54MUR41
Sure, I'd be glad to help.Especially since I just learned it myself :Pokay. I'll run through everything I did.I'm assuming you're running Vanilla Oblivion. There is a certain way to set up your files, and doing this right will ensure all mods are installed properly.Take off any other hair, face, or eye mods. These will cause black eyes, purple skin, and just plain COMPLICATIONS. Take them off for now, and put Ren's on first. Unzip your file into some third folder. You need to manually place the files. search for the .esp file. Then place it in your Oblivion/Data folder.THIS PART IS IMPORTANT:create a new folder in your /data folder called Textures. This will be used for all mods. THen create another folder in your /data folder caled Meshes.Search for Ren's textures folder, and then double click and enter it. I believe the file after this is labeled Hair. Take that folder and copy paste it into your self-made Textures folder.Do the same thing with Ren's meshes folder. Activate the .esp in your Oblivion splash screen's Data Files tab. Once you do this, everything should show. I may have some things off due to your personal setup and computer habits, whatev. So lemme know if it works, and I'll be available to help soon. Even a blonde can follow these directions! If not, you must be platinum...;)

bben46
The fuzz you are describing is something I have not seen before. Can you give us more detail on it? Worst case - you may need to reinstall. Here is my suggested uninstall- reinstall procedure: When you uninstall Oblivion it doesn't really uninstall everything. Then when you start adding mods before you have started the game, some things may not get initialized properly. Here is my recommended procedure for uninstalling and reinstalling. I would appreciate any feedback on this as it is something I expect to post often and I hate to give bogus or useless information. Reinstalling Oblivion My instructions assume you are using Windows XP and have installed Oblivion into the default location. If you are using Vista or Linux, the file locations may be different. For a full reinstall, first you should try to preserve your mods and save games. The easiest way is to rename the data folder where your mods are stored C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data to something else such as \olddata. Then rename the folder that has your saved games and Oblivion.ini, C:\documents and settings\your user name\my documents\My Games\oblivion to something like \My games\Old Oblivion - this saves your saved games and the oblivion.ini file. Then, using the original CD, NOT the Launcher on your Hard drive. Select uninstall. After it completes the uninstall, reboot your computer - this is important as it allows Windows to remove some references to the original Oblivion. This would be a good time to do a file clean up and defragment your hard drive. Now, again using the original CD, reinstall Oblivion. Before adding any mods, patches or Shivering Isles, start the game and make a save. This initializes some stuff that needs to be initialized. Now, If you DO NOT use Shivering Isles, patch the game using ONLY the latest Oblivion patch. All of the stuff from the earlier patches is included. Be sure you use the proper language patch. If you use the wrong one it may work, but with a strange mixture of languages. (Germanglish?) Or it may crash. NOTE: there are two English Patches UK & US and they are different. (Some people actually think we speak the same language) Use the one that matches your original disk. If you use Shivering Isles, DO NOT install the Oblivion patch. Install Shivering Isles, then ONLY the latest Shivering Isles patch. All of the updates for Oblivion are included. There is only one Shivering Isles patch for both US & UK English Now, again start the game and make a save. Test to be sure everything is working right (No purple objects or yellow blocks) Before adding any mods, back up both your \data folder and the save game folder. Copy them, don't move or rename them, to a different folder - such as \Bethesda\Clean Oblivion\data and \Bethesda\clean Oblivion\saves. Note, Your Oblivion.ini file is in the same folder, but separate from, the save game folder. Now rename the \data folder to \newdata and the \oldata back to \data. this restores all of your mods. You should now have 2 data folders \data, and \newdata. Then rename the new My Games\Oblivion to something like \New Oblivion. and the \Old oblivion to \oblivion - this restores all of your saved games and your original Oblivion.ini file. If you have the same problem, it is most likely caused by a mod. However, you now have a clean install to fall back on. You can rename the files back to what they were and be back to your clean install without having to reinstall again. Sounds like lots of work, but you will have a clean install and a back up clean install when you are finished.
Kikihamster
oooohhh boy! thanks to you, UR84N_54MUR41! but my rens beauty pack still doesnt work. I did exactly what you wrote. :wallbash: I dont know what you meant with that vanilla-thing. (do you mean ice-cream?)I have oblivion with knights of the nine and shivering isles.I had no other hair-, face- and so on - mods on it. the faces and tattoos and so on are showing up, too, but the hair is very important and theyre not working... do you have another idea?or what should I tell you about my computer or game that you could help me, maybe? I am thankful for every hint.
bben46
Kikihamster, it helps if you make your own post. This one is buried inside of another one. Some people might not see it. We need to know what other mods you are running and if possible a load order. Also, are you running OBSE or OBMM? vanilla refers to the game with no mods installed (plain Oblivion)
Kikihamster
ooookaay.this topic has exactly the same name as mine would have, and one guy who solved the problem, exactly the same problem that I have, if you havent noticed yet, I am talking about rens beauty pack, where no hair turns up.I mean, in other forums you will be told off for "double-postings".I dont know what a load order is, anyway, but I dont use obmm or the other thing youve mentioned.I dont play this vanilla-thing, I have also knights of the nine and shivering isles.I have many other mods on the game. Would it really help if I all post them? and yes, almost forgot, I am german, so Im no genious in english language. I couldnt find anybody in a german forum who knows about mods, and I thougt you guys could help me. if this is okay i will do what you say and create a new topic.
