dtzone46
I have tried, to no avil to get mods working for FO3, some work for a while than quit and start bugging the game, most never work and crash the game from the start. FOMM will not work, FOSE will not work, nor will anything that needs the FO3.ini, it does not exist on my computer, i have searched. I know where it is supposed to be, but it is not there. (same with FONV and Skyrim, the .ini just does not exist anywhere on any drive, anywhere) I can play FO3 just fine in vanilla but it's become boring and i am going back to something else without the mod feature as i have found it more trouble than it's worth. I refuse to buy dlc from steam or any other service, thus i own original dvd's for all 3 games and that is how they are installed.( FONV and Skyrim mods work just fine as long as they dont need the SE)Not a rant but just wondering if mods are even supported for FO3 anymore, have i been wasting my time? or am i just a total idiot that needs to go back to wow or something? Sorry if i seem angry or something but FO3 imo is a lot more interesting than either of the others and the only one i really want to play anymore. Sarissi
Hmmmm...... There are 3 .ini files for Fallout 3: the first is in the folder where the program is. The other 2 are located in the folder where the saves folder is. Normally, this is under MyGames in your Documents. The 2 in your documents are FALLOUT.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini, while the one in program folder is Fallout_default,ini. You can get 4 of the DLCs on 2 DVDs from Amazon, OR, buy the Game of The Year Edition and get all 5. The 2 expansion pack DVDs include Operation Anchorage & The Pitt, and Broken Steel & Point Lookout respectively. Mothership Zeta would be via Steam or Windows Live. My install path for Fallout 3 is Program Files (x86)/Bethesda Softworks/Fallout 3. Gamestop PC Downloads installs it here and I have no choice in the matter. Yet, I have NO problems!!! Since I am the Administrator, I just gave myself as a User full access and made sure the read only attribute was removed from the Bethesda Softworks forlder and everything contained in it. FOSE loader and it DLLs go in the Fallout 3 program directory, and the FO3 Geck must be installed there as well. FO3Edit goes here also. FOMM you can install where it wants to be installed. Oh, yeah..... You do need to download the official patch (update) from Bethesda to bring FO3 and FONV to their most recent versions in order for FOSE and FNVSE to work. I run a bunch of mods and have no problems. I do hope this helps you. Finally, FO3 is still actively modded with new and updated mods on a sometimes daily basis. dtzone46
Thanks for the info. Again, sorry if i seemed mad, i get that way sometimes. I mean well :) Anyway.... I'll look into this, i don't think FO3 was ever updated than, as i never did it myself. After many issues with steam i always buy retail disk's and let them do it's thing. That was the 1st problem with FO3 as i read later that it was NOT supposed to go in the usual program folder. (due to a mod that i cannot remember, I'll have to research this) It now sits in C/games/Fallout 3. New vegas and Skyrim sit in the usual steam location, work fine other than random ctd's on new vegas and are both modded heavily. I have not had (many) problems with either NV or Skyrim but FO3 wont take most mods from nexus either installed with the NMM or manually, I know how it works, i played a modded Oblivion for a couple years and had no problem with the 2 newer titles. I have the GOTY edition from Amazon, just started FO3 last month, (yes,i know,I'm late, But NV just whetted my appetite for a more skyrim open world experence that NV offered) I'm going to try reinstalling it back to Program Files (x86)/Bethesda Softworks and start again from scratch. Again, thanks for this snippet of info and to the few pm's i got :D
Sarissi
Oh, I know it is your frustration speaking. :wallbash: I recently went 2 days in real world time of extreme frustration. FO3 at GNR Plaza the first time, when you hear the Behemoth. The problem I have turns out to be triggered by the mini nuke detonation, and it does not matter if the PC is in the plaza or the school: Instant Crash to Back Screen every time! This only happens during the detonation, and only if the PC is in the effects zone. If I run into the plaza to add the map marker and immediately fast travel to Chevy Chase, wit a short bit, walk out of the station, then fast travel back to the plaza: no more problem. Don't worry about being late to the game. I just bought this on 03 Dec 2011, while I was in the hospital for post surgical care and treatment for a Cellulitis flareup. If you want to talk about being late, I am 56.
