Skyrim NPC Editor - Lydia Paladin

So I am trying to change the appearance of Lydia, as well as enhance her fighting style.

I changed her to CombatSpellsword to allow her to fight as a warrior, but use spells as well.

I increased her magicka and all magic trees, I also added heal other, stoneskin, courage, and fast healing (for both hands)

I changed her hair style and that is it for appearance.

I created the .esp into the data folder.

When I load the game her face is dark and hair is the wrong color, and in combat she only uses her bow and her melee items, no spells at all, even if she's taken considerable damage she wont heal.

Any suggestions?

i am having the same problem, if they have a bow, they wont cast spells..

i took the bow away from them they cast spells until you reload the game and the bow magically comes back.

i cant find a way to remove the bow completely.

NPC inventory

Lydia only shows a steel sword in her inventory.

However I do not believe bows are the issue. If I make her a spellsword with console commands it will work... in theory. It has worked on other followers that had bows

They will rarely if ever use healing/protection spells and refuse to use them on anyone else like heal other. with Spell sword you can give them left hand spells and the right hand for weapon and it will increase the chance they will use the spells. From the list you noted the only one i can see her using ever would be stoneskin and on very rare occasions heal herself. If you give her a shield she will most likely never use the spells.

I wouldn't create it in the data folder but outside to be sure you have all the files created. 1 .dds buried in a texture folder and the .esp. If you use the version that extracts to a .bsa i suggest use the .bsa and not loose files unless you have the DLC texture pack. There is instructions in the readme that explains it all and was asked a couple hundred times on the mod page comment section. Mainly just make sure you have the .dds or .bsa when you put it in the data folder.

*edit

Figured I would add my theory on why they wont cast spells on other members of the party (like you for instance) is the way they target an NPC during combat. once they target and engage in combat they wont target another NPC until that one is down. Also they wont target you or another NPC unless it is to kill you or them.

The only times I have seen an NPC cast a spell on the player is scripted and i cant remember if that was even in Skyrim.

Stuff

Also, if you use a healing spell on an NPC, it's as if you have attacked them. If an npc was to heal you/another npc, they'd start killing each other.

Kinda backwards, huh?

Follower NPC's will make a comment about your healing them though. The whole thing is not really backwards but off in many directions.
