Improved Atmosphere Issue

Hello I have an issue with the Improved Atmosphere mod. When I have removed it, it's still "active" in game. I cannot find anything in the pc about this mod that somehow could still be there. I've tried to re install several times now but it's still there. Does anyone know any way to solve this? So I can reset the game to "normal"? Any suggestions would be great.

Also another thing. When I reinstalled the game the first time I got no desktop shortcut like you usually get right? So I always have to go through my computer. Anyone have any idea about how I can get one? I have read some threads about this same issue, most people say that I need to go to my bin_ship folder and copy the dragon age origins.exe file but I don't have one there either so I'm kinda stuck.

Hey there, Freddbsswe;

Sorry to hear you're having problems.

Regarding "Improved Atmosphere" (IA), you are experiencing a known issue. IA makes changes to certain elements of the core game files that remain even after you remove the mod. That's the main reason I removed it shortly after I first tried it. Only fix is to re-install the game. (Any saves you made while using IA may be unplayable.)

If you read the author's documentation carefully, he does point-out that this can (will) happen.

Regarding the missing shortcut, you can just create a new one. The "target" should be the DALauncher.exe program, not the core game executable. But this should get fixed anyway when you do the re-install for the other issue. :thumbsup:

(BTW: It's better to keep to a single problem in the Tech Support forums. Just create new topics for each one. Makes it much easier for you, anyone who might be able to assist with one but not the other, and anyone who comes along later looking for help with a similar situation.)

Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition PC.

Retail disc? Steam? EA:Origins? D2D? :unsure:

The point being that a complete uninstall is obviously needed, but that the process is slightly different depending on which install you had.

But basically, IA "bakes" things into the gamesave in ways that mean issues can persist even after you remove the mod. Only fix is a complete wipe of the game -- both the program and the player data.

IF you have saves from before you installed IA, it is possible (although more complicated) to preserve that character and those saves.

Use the built-in "Uninstall routine, (DO NOT chose "Retain my Saves and Characters".)

Delete the folder "\[user's documents]\Bioware\Dragon Age".

Reboot (just to be sure the Registry entries are updated.)

Re-install!
