Character Movement Speed

Howdy ya'll. Please don't jump down my throat if this question has been asked before. I am pretty sure that it probably has. I did run a search beforehand though :ninja:

Anyway, I was curious as to aspects of vanilla movement speed, specifically:

1.) I know about light, heavy, unarmored, etc slowing you down or speeding you up. But does anybody know the actual values or multipliers that are used here? Are they scaled for movement speed (so if you adjusted it manually in a mod it would remain the same proportion penalty) or is it a flat value applied to you character?

2. What effect does your choice of weapon have on your movement speed? If FEELS like when I have a two-handed sword equipped my character moves slower than with a one-handed sword. But I can't prove it. Maybe I am just being paranoid?

3. Inventory items. Does having 290/300 in inventory apply any sort of penalty to your speed? Do you move faster with 0/300 in gear? Again, I feel like this does make my characters slower, but I can't actually prove it.

4. Spells like Frost and Ice Spike. What are the actual values at work here?

5. Anything else that applies to movement speed that I didn't already mention.

Alright guys, thanks in advance for all your great answers ;)

hi sukeban howdy, awhile ago i looked into character movement speed out of curiousity (running/walking/carryweight/weapons).

Didn't find much hard number/graph info available on skyrim mechanics of speed calculation/multipliers used for scaling.

Specifically, multiplier interaction of carryweight/leveling/bonuses to movement speed, anyway,

it's been enough for me to know its in there somewhere.

I never mess with player.setav/modav tweaks; but, you can see a lot of the actor value attributes/skills here:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes5Mod:Actor_Value_Indices

You can look at these variables set on your player/follower using console commands:

getav speedmult

getav carryweight

Movement speed multiplier probably capped at 100, don't know exactly how this mult# is used,

probably just 1X versus anything less than '100' would subtract speed.

Carryweight (max weight of everything) probably affects movement speed on a graduated scale somehow

(combined weight of everything vs max capacity) ranging from no effect to overencumbered/forced to walk.

I've noticed a gradual movement speed slow down as weight increases.

On your other questions, there's a small difference in movement running speed between an unsheathed

1-handed vs 2-handed sword. Subtle and may have more to do with game animation mechanics than weight; but,

2H swords are heavier so animation physics might be kicking in and affect both arms of the player i'd guess.

Running with 1H sword+shield or bow animations seem faster/smoother.

As my player/follower leveled up I've gone ahead/ditched 1-handed stuff for 2-handed, more fun factor to me.

But any 2-handed stuff is slower animation/actionwise.

(fyi, unrelated but, currently looking at dragonshout 'Elemental Fury' weapon strike speed enchantment and

limitation bug fixes associated with using enchanted gear and both hands).

Vanilla Destruction spells like frost/fire/ice spike seem pretty weak to me but fun and need leveling up

to be really effective i'd say.

Actual damage caused probably calculated from the different school/type of spell attributes eventually translated into

basic character health/stamina damage somehow i think.

anyway, 2 suggestions for ya, i use these mods to tweak/not-overpower and forget about player/follower speed/carryweight issues:

Using the custom Fortify Speed enchantment on a ring/amulet to help Lydia keep up.

- The Art of Magicka - CBBE - UNP - Male v6 by Zonzai and Kalell

Using the Bag of Holding accessory to bump carryweight up 640 pts.
