Advice for spell making (Defensive spell pack)

Hey guys I'm looking to make a small skyrim mod spell pack. I like playing on higher difficulties as a mage fighting up to 3 dragons at once, but I hate getting one shot. It's not fun when I get one shot while my back is turned to them. Wards can work but it takes time to switch which isn't always possible in time.

Here's how I want the spells to work. You channel a shield that persists after you cast. There would be a version for each element. This way when combat starts you could whip out one of these spells, channel for a bit then take out your offensive spells and fire away. If you get blindsided by an elemental attack you don't take a ton of damage (or even none).

I'm asking for advice because I have no idea where to start. The only spells that do anything similar are wards, but their effects end after you stop channeling the spell. I like the smartcast mod but it doesn't quite do the job sometimes. There are a ton of spell packs that give you new ways to kill enemies, but when it comes to defensive spells that work well with the 2 hand system there isn't much to choose from. Wards are really slow to bring out and they have the start up time. They're best against dragons that blast you for a few seconds, but entirely worthless in the heat of fight against a mage where you could get hit any second. It's also boring because you need to be holding a ward in one hand at all times.

Honestly what I post above is only a minimum. I'd love to give the spells even more features:

-visual indicator of remaining shield in upper right corner(each in color similar to their respective element)

-spells use percent of magicka rather than flat (this is so they scale into late game and I don't need to make 4 or 5 different versions of each spell)

-if certain quantities of damage is absorbed additional effects apply (this would need a lot of tweaking) , for example.

1. 10 damage absorbed- 25% of magicka channeled is refunded

2. 25 damage absorbed- your next spell deals 25 additional damage

3. 50 damage absorbed- gain elemental resistance of respective element of the spell

4. 100 damage absorbed- grants additional elemental damage of the shield

5. 250 damage absorbed- releases a nova of respective element

6. 500 damage absorbed- your spells are free for the next 5 seconds

7. 1000 damage absorbed- The enemy that damaged you takes 500 damage of the respective element

-shields decay over time

Graphics would be really simple, but I don't know where to start. Could anyone give me some advice?
