Creation kit for skyrim se need help

I'm not really even sure if I'm posting this in the right place so sorry in advanced if this is the wrong location. I decided I wanted to learn how to make my own follower, I looked at some tutorials and I decided to just give it a go. It took me awhile to figure out everything but I managed to get my follower in game and he worked fairly okay but he was bad in combat and his face needed a little help so I dismissed him and went back to the creation kit and started editing. I saved then went back in game, I noticed no changes in him so I deleted his file and decided to just make him over again, I went to the location I put him in and he was there but it was like he had the dialog a follower would have when they are acting as a follower but he wasn't following me he was just hanging out at the inn, and dismissing him didn't work. I tried talking to him on several different characters and it was the same thing. I went to Whiterun grabbed Aela as a follower, she worked. Her and I went back to where my custom follower was and the same thing even though I had Aela was my follower. I tried deleting custom follower a few times and remaking him I have been doing that all day long and the same bug happens. I guess I'm just looking for someone who knows what may be causing it and how to possibly fix it. Please and thank you in advanced
