GoggTracer
Alright, so, whenever I am in/near the area around Ranger Station Charlie (and Camp McCarran) the sound will completely die, leaving only the music and a few misc. sounds. Attempting to go further and opening the Pip-Boy makes it crash HARD. I figured it out to be a NPC-related bug (the Jackals/Vipers raiders) but that's about it and I have disabled all mods that change NPCs drastically
dubiousintent
FNV "Music & Sounds" are split among four folders by "type". There is a distinction between and in the requirements for each. Stereo won't fade (attenuate) over distance; mono will. This accounts for why "fx" and "voices" need to be in mono:* sounds (Data\Sound\fx): noise/ambience/special effects(fx). WAV mono files.* voices (Data\Sound\voice): dialog. OGG and LIP mono files.* music (Data\Music): location/event soundtrack. MP3 stereo files.* songs (Data\Sound\songs): radio playlists. Mono: WAV (Pipboy) or OGG (radios/speakers) files; or Stereo: MP3 (Pipboy) files. If you are getting any type of file to play, then the problem is most likely not with your "system sound driver", though it might be related to a particular "codec" required to play a particular file format. "Music" is essentially "start and forget"; once launched it plays through to completion unless intentionally interrupted, regardless of other sounds that might get played such as "gunshots" or "voices". If it isn't playing, then you probably have had your Winjdows "sound mixer" settings altered. If you only have sound issues in a particular location of the game, more than likely it is a mod conflict. We REALLY need to see your sorted "load order" as produced by LOOT; to include the main game and DLC files. With modded games, its the sequence, not merely the list of mods, which is the cause of many problems. LOOT's sort gives a good first approximation, correcting the most obvious issues and is sufficient for most players. Instructions on how to copy it's list for posting are in the "How to ask for help" article, and "Checklist Item #11' entry in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. -Dubious-
