Adapting Male-only armour/clothing mesh to have a female model

As the title says. I've googled the problem and I can't find anything! There are some awesome mods that only have male meshes for the armor AND THE MOD AUTHORS SOMETIMES DON'T INTEND TO CHANGE IT! Can someone please point me to an easy-to-understand tutorial, as I suck at mesh manipulation.
