LCD Monitors

Recommended Posts

EDIT: Already made decision. Bought. :)

Hello! This is only my second post in the forums, and I hope I'm posting this in the right group topic :)

It's that time of the year again in Singapore- the annual PC Show, where consumers throng by the thousands ogling and spending on discounted consumer electronics. Last year alone consumers spent about USD 19.1 million in the space of four days. This year there will be an estimated 600 exhibitors and spending is projected to be at USD 36.5mil. So that's the very brief filler on the sense of scale this event has in this small little island of a country :)

I've narrowed down a few choices in purchasing an LCD monitor at this event. I will greatly appreciate any sound suggestions, advice or opinions based on knowledge or experience to make an informed purchase. Here is a list of my choices (information extracted from exhibitor brochures):

LG 22" L227WTG (Widescreen)

-Fast Response Time (2ms)

-High Contrast Ratio 10,000:1

-Interface DVI

-High Brightness 300cd/m2

-Wide Viewing Angle: 176 degrees/170 degrees

-Resolution 1680 x 1050

-Picture-Enhancing Chip (f-engine, HDCP, ez Zooming)

-Other features (4:3-in-wide, Intelligent Auto)

-Colours 16.7M (8bit)

Event Price: USD 320 / GBP 162

ViewSonic 22" VX2235wm-5 (Widescreen)

-1680 x 1050 Resolution

-4000:1 Contrast Ratio (DCR)

-2ms Response Time

-300cd/m2 Brightness

-Supports D-sub and DVI

-Built-in Speakers

Event Price: USD 284 / GBP 144

Samsung 22" T220 Wide LCD Monitor

-Brightness 300cd/m2

-Contrast Ratio: 1000:1 (DC 20,000:1)

-Max Resolution 1680 x 1050

-Response Time (2ms)

-Luxurious Rose Black Crystal Design :P

-Off-Timer, Image Size, Colour Effect

-Analog/DVI Interface (HDCP supported)

Event Price: USD 364 / GBP 185

I would say that in order of usage, I will be primarily using it for imaging (Photos, 2D graphics design e.g; Photoshop), gaming, and least importantly dvd/video playback.

So, any recommendations? Should I give more thought on the brands? I've heard good things about LG Monitors, Samsung apparently has an excellent dead pixel warranty/policy and I have a relative who's rather satisfied with his Viewsonic. Please feel free to advise me, and thanks in advance! :)
