Profligatus Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 This is simply my list of the mods I'm running for Skyrim. Being a busy uni student, I don't always have time enough to rummage through Skyrim Nexus for good Skyrim mods (which, in my opinion, is a rapidly dwindling number). So, my question is; could any one recommend and mods that would add ANY sort of content (areas, dungeons, quests, items, etc) OR make cosmetic improvements while keeping the game lore-friendly? I know the term "Lore-Friendly" is subjective, but I don't expect to see anything like a Space Marine's Power Armour or firearms in my version of Tamriel. I would greatly appreciate ANY suggestions (no matter how small) as I rarely have the time to look through Skyrim Nexus everyday. There are just too many mods, and if I miss just one day, a few of the 'better' ones and 'hidden gems' get lost. Alternatively, if you're for some reason just starting out with modding your game, you could refer to this list for what I consider "Lore-Friendly" and an immersive and varied Skyrim Experience. The list is built mainly of mods as seen on series like "Skyrim Mods Weekly" so don't expect to see any hidden gems. roboroller Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 There are a few mods that I use that no one else seems to mention that I find pretty awesome and invaluable The first is Soul Gems Differ http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6335 - it's by the same guy who does the excellent "Better Followers" mod that you already use. It re-textures all the soul gems, but it's more than that. It uses a neat NMM installer with lots of options, you can customize each different soul gem to a different color, vary the colors between empty and full, and even add a nifty glow effect to the soul gem. He gives you a ton of color and pattern options and they all look super cool. It's the one mod that I know of that doesn't get nearly the amount of attention it deserves. It should be in the top 100 but only has around 92 endorsements. It's good looking, easy to install, has unprecedented customization and works flawlessly. Another one is Glowing Arrows http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=5811 which some people are not going to like (I thought I wouldn't) BUT it actually makes archery fights a lot of fun, you can easily see all the arrows whizzing around and bouncing off things, it's a really neat effect, it can be a little immersion breaking and it's definitely not for everyone, but I personally like it a lot. I just pretend that my character has magic "ranger vision" or something. Also, another little change that made the game unexpectedly better is New Thinner Torch http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6950 this mod only has 18 endorsements! But it makes the torch look so much better. This guy changed to torch to be thinner and adjusted the way its held so it's not held at the very bottom AND now the torch is held at a slight angle away from the character. I always hated the way torches were held in this game and this mod makes it look so, so, so much better and more natural. That's all I got for now.
Profligatus Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Cool beans. Like I said earlier, any input is greatly appreciated. Especially the link - I could've found them myself, but you made it just that much easier. I really like the thinner torch and soul gem improvements and as for the glowing arrows; only one way to find out if I like it, right?
Lokiron Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I didn't see the Complete Crafting Overhaul nor Weapons and Armor Fixes on your list. There are highly endorsed and are made by Headbomb who has made a lot of good stuff. Deadly Combat is really awesome as well, making melee and archery deadly, decisive and quick. Only if you're into realism and survival stuff: I really like Hardcore Balanced Experience, Frostfall along with Camping. HBE is very customizable. No links, as I'm on a phone and can't be bothered.
