Losing hair over ENBs

Hey, so I’ve been trying (and failing) to install ANY enb, and this time I tried ATE. Here's my step by step process. Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong here.

1. Go to enbdev and download d3d9.dll file and put it in the same folder as oblivion.exe

2. Run Oblivion to make sure enbseries is working. It is.

3. Download A Tweaked ENB.

4. Open folders titled: 01Optional effects, 02AMD dof effect, 03ATE mod list. (I know these are optional, but I like to be thorough).

5. Move contents of those folders into same folder as oblivion.exe.

6. Move all other files into same folder as oblivion.exe.

When I run Oblivion after completing all these steps, the enb doesn't show up. I can press Shift + Enter and open the options, but they don't do anything. I made sure that Antialiasing was off and HDR was on, but that didn't do anything. I do have OBSE and it is working, and by the way, I have the steam version of the game. I have both the game’s steam overlay and the main steam overlay turned off, but that hasn’t done anything. I’ve been pulling my hair out for the past few days over this, so any help will be much appreciated.

OBSE should work just fine without Steam overlay. I remember reading somewhere about issues with either Oblivion Reloaded or ENB when using the Steam overlay (like, a washed-out image). One thing that came in mind: there are two ENB versions for Oblivion:

  • v0.181 with visual effects, without ENBoost
  • v0.259 without visual effects, with ENBoost

So, as far as I know, you would need the 0.181 version to have any visual effects beyond anisotropic filtering or something small like that. Like, ENB presets only work with 0.181. Could that be the issue? If you already have that version, then probably not... Maybe it is something small, like a configuration option somewhere turned the wrong way, or a file misplaced somehow?
