Kutter
Hey all, I would like to know how to change the base health stat of creatures who's base health stat is 'greyed out' Example... Encfrostbitespider and the large and giant versions also. When you look at their stats tab, the base health amount is unchangable... How would I go about changing this BASE stat for ALL of these spiders?? Thanks for your help. Edited March 19, 2012 by Kutter
tunaisafish
On the left side of the pane, near the top is the template that the one you are looking at is based on.At the bottom left is what is being taken directly from that template.

Hi, thanks for the reply... I am not at all sure what you mean here. I simply want to change the Base Health of a creature (all instances of that creature) I dont even see anything about 'template' and I also dont see anything showing me whats being 'taken' from that template. Sorry :( I don't understand at all. Edited March 19, 2012 by Kutter
tunaisafish
I figured you were at the Actor editing page. That has the template and checkboxes for what is inherited. On that page is the Stats Tab you mentioned. I misread your orig post thinking the whole tab was greyed (inherited from the template), but it's just the base ones, sorry. Those will be being autocalc'd as they're grey. You can either mess with their Class, or uncheck the AutoCalc button.
Kutter
Thanks again for your quick reply! :) I have unticked the Auto Calc button but still I can't change the Base Health amount, it remains greyed out! I've never modded a thing before, and was just wanting to mess around with individual creatures to see how things worked. I figured that the easiest thing to do would be mess with their overall health amount. I had no plans, just really wanted to see what my lvl 44 character was capable of killing 'Health Wise' with the weapons he has. I have a save game infront of a frostbite spider, and seeing as this is a random encounter I understand that changing the health amount would change it for ALL spiders of that type. This is fine as I'm saving all changes to my own mod file. It's very dissapointing that the first thing I try and do I have such amazing difficulty doing :( I would have thought that changing a creatures health would be about the easiest thing to do.. Obviously I'm wrong. Is there no way to do this at all? And if not.. How do people do create these rebalance mods that I see all the time for bethesda products. Surely there HAS to be a way to change the base health of a creature? Thanks so much for your help and thanks for your patience in helping out a noob :P

Well, I have to confess now I may be wrong as I'm a noob too when it comes to changing the Stats. After I found out I'd answered the wrong Q, I took the rest from the wiki pages I linked you. (I'm not near the CK atm or I'd check) The wiki has been wrong in the past, or just confusing at times. Hopefully someone with a bit more experience will be able to tell you the trick to it. David Brasher
I was working with this issue a couple of days ago. The Skyrim interface is rather counter-intuitive and hostile. It seems that what you have to do is type a positive or negative number into the "Health Offset" box which is one of the only ones which is not greyed out. So if the "Base Health" of the actor is 300, but you want your actor to have 100 health, you will need to type -200 into the "Health Offset" box. When you have done everything right and perhaps messed with the "Auto calc stats" checkbox, depending on the situation, the "Calculated Health" box will read 100 like you want it to. This is a lot less clear and straight forward than Oblivion was.
Kutter
Hi David, thank you so much for your time. Unfortunately this doesn't work either :( I have retried it after reading your post, and NOTHING changes the health of the spider infront of me in my save game. Are you sure its the right spider your changing? Yes, as I change its name each time to make SURE I am editing the right one. As above NOTHING changes its health amount. Offset does nothing (with or without autocalc) Level does nothing Calculated health seems to be ignored altogether. I am incredulous that this would be such a difficult thing to do! lol.. Any one else? Any other thoughts David? Thanks again all for your input.
BigDon1
I'm still fairly new to making mods for Skyrim and using the Creation Kit, but I'll try to give you an example of how I've adjusted Stats for some NPCs or creatures. Here's a screenshot of the Stats tab of a default "EncFrostbiteSpiderSnowLarge" character:http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee503/lwd1234/Skyrim/SR_pic_01a.jpg I used it as a template for making large-spiders for quest-9 in my "Awnuld the Bold" mod. Here's how the Stats tab looks after I've made the changes I've wanted:http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee503/lwd1234/Skyrim/SR_pic_02a.jpg You can see the default spider is somewhat "weak" in it's stats, but I wanted my spiders to be more of a challenge to the Player than the default. The default spider is set at level 8, and will be level 8 regardless of what level the Player is. I wanted my spider to have a level adjusted more in keeping with the Player's level, so I have checked the "PC Level Mult" box. Then I put in a Minimum and Maximum level that my spider could be. I also have a Level Mult set to 2, so it will be even more of a challenge to the Player (will basically also add a 2x multiplier to it's stats based what level the Player is, but still having a minimum level of 12 regardless). This may seem like it might be "too much" of a challenge, but, in this case, I think by the time a Player reaches level 10+, they will have acquired decent armor, weapons, items, spells, potions, etc.. whereas a spider can't wear armor, can use weapons, doesn't use potions, spells (unless you count it's "bite"), doesn't heal itself... so even though my spider will be fairly challenging to a Player, I think my stats for my spider seems to work well in this case. I gave it a Health and Stamina offset of 150. Stats are generated automatically, and, from what I understand, you'll see the Minimum Level skill values being displayed according to the Minimum-level set, but, it will automatically adjust according to whatever level the Player is if having the PC Level Mult box checked. Also, if basing a newly created character from a default template, in order to changes stats and such, you would need to un-check some of the various check-boxes as seen in the "Template Data" area (seen towards the lower-left corner), otherwise, whatever options you leave checked there will have stats and such based off the default template character and that tab would be "greyed out". So, for example, un-check the "Use Stats" box if wanting to manually adjust some of the stats yourself. Hope something of that helps. Good luck!
