[Request] Spider Replacement Mod

Hey all! After reading the rest of the threads from fellow arachnophobes, I understand that this request is really silly to most, but I still need to ask.

I'm currently using the No Spiders mod found on nexus, but after trying it out I've found that the spiders are exactly the same, the colors just change. Which, isn't enough for me, sadly. Anyway, after scouring the forums I've found that there were mods that change the spiders into something else (like bears, for example), however all of these were hosted on the bioware social forum which is no longer available. Wayback machine doesn't help, either, I just get redirected to a languages page with no way to bypass that.

So, I was wondering if anyone has an alternative? Just in need of a mod that replaces all of the spiders in the game. Thanks!

I never tested it in-game, but a while back I messed around with some GDA edits of creature replacements for the spiders... bears, dragons, deepstalkers, mabari (like the DA2 mod), wolves, and rats (!).

I just cleaned up the files and uploaded them here, if you feel like playing guinea pig. (I suggest making a clean save before installing any new mod, and especially before installing a completely untested alpha of something.)

Note I have no idea if the BSN mods addressed any balance issues, but my files certainly don't... it's just some straight garbage-y copy/paste replacement of the various creatures info into the 'spider' ID slots.

(ETA that apart from the two 'lost' spider replacers on old!BSN projects and the one here on the Nexus that you mentioned, I don't know of any other similar mods.)

Thank you so much!! I was even reading up on how to do this since I was that desperate, lol. (alas, I have no modding skills) so this is the exact type of bare bones mod I was looking for. I have only tested it so far on shape shifting but that seems to work - abilities and all. I will test it further when I encounter spiders in game, hopefully I'll see bears instead.

Update: Went into a dungeon with corrupted spiders and the game crashed. :( Re-started the game and it crashed right when I saw enemies in the distance located on my map. I can only assume it crashed once the game loaded up the spiders.

Urgh. I'm so sorry and I just KNEW I had probably screwed something up.

I just reinstalled the game, found a Deep Roads save, installed the bear replacer, and also crashed on entering the immediate area of the Corrupted Spiders and Spider Queen.

I didn't see anything odd about the GDA, but I re-generated it to be sure, and the game still crashed.

I then changed the Corrupted Spiders to Great Bears, and no crash... it didn't like the Corrupted Spider-to-Bereskarn swap for some reason. :-/

Just uploaded the new version... hope it works for you, and again, I apologize for the shoddy file... there's a reason I'll never be a real modder.

(Big bears spitting out webs is one of the most amusing things I've ever seen in a vidya game, though.)

Please don't be sorry, I really appreciate your help! And after all, it was untested, and I was more than happy to play guinea pig. :) Unfortunately, still crashed - pretty sad I didn't get to see bears spitting out of webs, but I think I can get a good visual of that in my head.

Although, strange that I encountered a crash where you didn't - since the enemies I'd be faced with were supposed to be Corrupted Spiders as well.. perhaps it was my save? Though I loaded up an abandoned one where I was unfortunate enough to come across other spiders and, still crashed. Perhaps they just have a vendetta against me for trying to get rid of them.

Either way, thank you so much for updating the file for me, still! I will still do further testing, but either way, I really appreciate your help! :)

Urgh. I am so sorry the new file didn't work... it's really difficult to troubleshoot when I can't reproduce the problem.

I'm actually very surprised that it worked for me, now, since the old saves I have are a MESS (eleventy billion mods and then I had to force load because I couldn't find some of them to reinstall) and I played through what I think is the most spider-intensive area in the vanilla game (Ortan Thaig).

Again, my apologies.

No need to be sorry at all! I completely understand, and I apologize that I wasn't able to give you better details regarding the circumstance of the crash, rather than just saying "I went to see a spider and it crashed"

And, I have great news! I thought it might be something with my save, and it was! I made an entirely new save to test and purposefully sought out spider enemies, and the mod works flawlessly so far! I'm really sorry for the false positive, my only assumption could be it was something with my old save being corrupted? Either way, I'm so happy I get to play the game without worrying about these 8 legged things.

Thank you so much!! Whatever issue I had with the last version, you seem to have totally squashed it!  A thousand thanks. <3!

Yay! I'm so glad it worked, and thanks for letting me know! (And for being a brave 'guinea pig'!)

Thanks a ton! I was struggling to find this, because all of the links that Google searches led me to, were broken (exactly as OP said), and I had JUST bought the game, unaware that there were spiders in this, and freaked out thinking I'd never be able to enjoy the game past the beginning of the mage story (an npc wants me to go into a spider infested cave). It's the exact reason I have never tried Skyrim yet, even though I want to (the mod for that game is also lost). But I am glad you have made one for DAO, that we can play again without fear of panic attacks. I only found this forum thread because I was about to request it myself, even was prepared to offer money for it as a commission. XD

Oh gosh, I'm glad it is helpful!

I apologize for the file not showing up in searches... reason I didn't add it to the site as a 'individual' mod is that I've gotten several complaints that I upload too many things, and I don't want to risk being banned because of it. (Eventually I'll move all my files under one 'umbrella page', but health issues keep me from having enough energy to tackle something like that at the moment.)
