Creation Kit Questions

Warning : I'm new to the creation kit. In fact, my only experience with it (and Skyrim modding in general) has been in the past 6 hours. For the most part, I can figure things out for myself, or search online, but I'm stuck.

That being said - how in the world do I change the name of containers (mostly chests) so that they display different titles in game? For example, I want two chests in my library (one for journals, the other for books). I have tried using the "edit base' button and renaming the container in the name field, but it renames every container (for example, every instance of the large chest), in my entire house. I just want one specific chest to be named "books", and the other "journals". I haven't been able to find any decent information on this anywhere (if there is a tutorial for this, please, do share!). I'm not sure if I'm using the wrong type of chest, or I'm just completely overlooking something.

(I know this can be done somehow, Shawk did it in the blacksmith area of dovahkiin's hideout.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

there are bethesda you tube videos on this it, the first in particular

right click the item/object in the cell view under the editor ID, and it should give you options to edit.

you should also be able to double left click on object in the render window to bring up its options. and then edit base

If you're simply opening up an existing chest and changing the Name, but not the ID, then ALL chests of that type in use in your Skyrim would reflect any changes you made.

An easy way I find is to open-up an already existing chest object in the CK (an easy way you might find an already exiting object / item is in the filter type what you're looking for, in this case "Chest", then at the bottom of the navigation tree click on the "All", then it will show all references using "Chest" as part of it's ID. Try to pick one that is a "Container", the icon looks something like an open-drawer), then in the ID field give it a new unique ID, example; "MyFancyBookChest1234" (without the quotes), then save it. It will ask if you want to make a new form (or wording similar to that), then once it's saved, open up the "MyFancyBookChest1234" object, and you can change some properties as you like, in the Name field give a different name if you like, "My Fancy Book Chest", add or remove items from it there, and even attach a script to it if required.

You can repeat the process as you like, so make one with an ID of "MyFancyJournalsChest1234", save it, open it, name it as you like, add or remove items as you like, attach a script if required.

Of course use your own unique ID and names as you want.

Good luck.
