wiikki
I've run across a nasty "bug" in my new custom weapon The black parts on the edge are meant to look like the rest of it but just for some reason it's not working out. I've tried checking all the texture maps and the model itself for the reason but so far without success. Help would be appreciated :) Edit: This "bug" is mainly a problem at night (or dark places). Also, it's not much of a trouble in the 1st person view but once you change to 3rd person you can see it very clearly like you can see in the pictures below. http://users.metropolia.fi/~tommiw/crap/tex%20bug.png from a different view: http://users.metropolia.fi/~tommiw/crap/redikirves2.png without textures: http://users.metropolia.fi/~tommiw/crap/texbugnotex.png Edited March 20, 2012 by wiikki
LittleBaron
You may have vertex colors enabled which are not necessary for a weapon object. It looks to me like most of your axe's vertexes have white vertex color and a few of the edge vertexes are black. If vertex colors are the problem, don't forget to 'Face' the normals of the mesh in Nifskope after you set 'Has Vertex Colors' to 'no".
Isilmeriel
from the untextured version you showed at the bottom, it's definitely not a reflection issue. Either you have some sort of vertex painting turned on (not likely if you didn't knowingly do that) or it's a smoothing group issue. Are the opposite faces on the sharp edges in the same smoothing group?
wiikki
Hahaa! Problem solved! All thanks to you :D It appears the problem here was a lot more fundamental which isn't really a strange thing. I started using blender like a few weeks back with the help of the tutorials found on the blendercookie.com and done a few mods already. When i read the post I had no idea what a smoothing group is (or a had a non-existent hunch). In other words, I hadn't even used them. After a bit of googling I found an explanation and tried it out. voila problem disappeared :) Thanks a lot for helping me out (kudos for you both!). Realising the meaning of smoothing group will help me a lot in the future :P
