Tank0123
Just a few things about that quest... 1) Did anyone else feel really bad about killing him, since he seemed so honorable and brave about the whole thing? 2) What happens if you side with the Stormcloaks? How and why exactly is he allowed to visit? And why did the Stormcloaks allow an Imperial wedding? With that, why would they allow the Penitus Oculatus inside? 3) What implications do you think this quest has? I mean, in past games it was kind of like "Well, the character *might* have done this or this...*. Now, it would have to be a guarantee that the Dragonborn did it, don't you think? Actually, nevermind. I'll answer my own question. In the lore-wise sense, the main character probably wouldn't be the one rising to the top of all the guilds; rather, it would be someone else, not the MC. However, since it might be a possibly that the MC could have been the leader of the guild, or done such and such a thing, we get to play all the possibilities-- like the Dragonbreak/Warp in the West from Daggerfall, where you had 6 choices of who to give the thingy to, but then all 6 choices occurred at once... ^Sorry, rambling. This is another thread entirely. Thoughts on the emperor?
BrettM
What if you do the heroic thing by killing Astrid and then wiping out the Dark Brotherhood? In that case the Emperor isn't assassinated at all. As for the Stormcloaks letting the Emperor visit, I don't see a problem. He's just there to attend a wedding, not pacify Skyrim, and it isn't strange that he would have his personal guards with him. Ulfric doesn't want to take over the Empire, he just wants Skyrim to be independent so it isn't bound to the terms of the Concordat. The Stormcloaks don't even really hate the Empire and I'm sure they would like the break to be on the friendliest possible terms so that future alliances against the Thalmor are not ruled out. By showing the Emperor that they can treat him in a civilized manner, they have a better chance of negotiating independence rather than continuing a fight that will drain both sides.
