sadowson
Hey team, I could really use some divine help here. About a week ago, my savegame got corrupted and started CTD'ing my game. THIS issue was probably my fault (Installing mods midgame, you know how it is) and after talking to some people, as depressing as it was, there was no saving my save game and I had to restart. So I cleaned Fallout 4 off my computer and removed all traces of it so I could do a literal fresh install. No INI's remained, nothing in the appdata folder, nothing in the documents folder. Literally. Gone. But now it's not working with mods - at all.I'm at my wits ends to make Fallout 4 work with mods. No matter what I do, Fallout 4 is simply refusing to load mods and I don't know why. I have done EVERYTHING on the Mod installation guide for installing mods. The whole checking invalidation archive, everything. If it was a solution someone else had on the internet, there's a 99% chance I tried it and failed. So far as I can work out, Fallout 4 is acknowledging that F4SE is working and that all Mods are ENABLED and LOADED. HOWEVER, when loading up a game - nothing. The console says - for example - a weapon exists, but its not there when I spawn it. LooksMenu isn't loading. Pony Tails by Azar isn't loading. Just to clarify - the mod that disables creation club news - isnt. working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Fallout 4 more than twice. I have checked the plugins.txt file more times than I can remember counting. I have checked every other ini more times than I can count. I have deleted and rebuilt every single INI that I can find. Everything is running with admin privileges.Running Fallout 4 WITHOUT F4SE changes nothing.NMM and Fallout 4 are BOTH installed on the same drive, as well as all the mods that are saved for it. Since I know it'll be the first thing people ask, I have posted my load order below under the spoiler tag. However, as far as LOOT and NMM seem to be concerned, there are no conflicts.I'll also post my computer specs. But I seriously doubt that's doing anything. At this point, I'm not entirely convinced that it's a mod specifically that's breaking it. But I'm more than happy to be proven wrong. Anything to get some help. Honestly? It's probably something really really really stupid that I have missed. But for the all the caps in the world, I cannot work out just what the ever loving hell I am doing wrong. If there is anyone out there who can provide some assistance, i'd be extremely grateful and I guess I'd owe you a beer or two. Or a Nuka-Cola. Comiconomist
Why are you running the game in admin mode? Nothing beyond the initial installation should require that. Here's one theory: running the game in admin mode causes the game to look in your admin account's documents folder for your ini files, instead of your default user documents folder, which is probably where you have changed the ini files to set the game up for modding. Try not running in admin mode and see if that fixes it. If not, go back to a clean install and (again, not in admin mode) try using the in game mod browser to download a mod from Bethesda.Net: presumably the game is set up to ensure a user starting from a clean slate can install mods from there. If that works, then start installing other mods as usual.
sadowson
I've turned Admin mode off and still have no luck. Did a fresh install last night, activated just a few core mods (Unofficial patch, looks menu, no more news, etc) and still no luck. I've tried downloading some mods from the Bethnet servers and they aren't activating either. Any other suggestions?
ehtyeci
So far as I can work out, Fallout 4 is acknowledging that F4SE is working and that all Mods are ENABLED and LOADED. HOWEVER, when loading up a game - nothing. The console says - for example - a weapon exists, but its not there when I spawn it. What weapon are you refering to?Does it spawn invisible? Does the console throw an error message when trying to spawn it? Can you equip and shoot with it?Is the weapon packaged into BA2 or loose files? You are describing what sounds like the classic archive invalidation issue, meaning that loose files aren't loading. Only esps are. I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, you clearly know of this issue, I'm just calling it out according to your description. The fact that the weapon, assuming you're talking about a modded weapon accessible only through mods, exists with a formid according to console, means that its .esp is in fact loaded in the game. Any .esp will load as long as it's defined in plugins.txt. Loose files, however, will only load when archive invalidation is enabled. Can you post the contents of your Fallout4Custom.ini? sadowson
I've tried using the IF-54 from Skibadaa's Weapon Pack and the Benelli M3 Super 90. Trying to give myself either of those items from the console results in an immediate CTD.Both are packaged as .esp's - there's no .ba2's as far as I can find. My Fallout4Custom.ini file is as follows: [Archive]bInvalidateOlderFiles=1sResourceDataDirsFinal= Despite having run the game, that hasn't changed one bit. I would have thought it would have overwritten it with the same settings used in Fallout4.ini - in addition to the archive settings I made? I didn't remove any lines from it. It is also NOT set as read only. On a side note, it is definitely called Fallout4Custom.ini, as the file was created by the game. ehtyeci
If there are no BA2s, then the mods are loose files. Immediate CTDs upon spawning something means the NIFs are broken or gone. So, given the nature of the issue, and how NMM works with its virtual install, meaning that all loose files are just links to the actual files inside NMMs virtual install folder, it might be that NMM fails to link them properly. Here's what I'd try: - Locate and open the IF-54 archive through NMM - Navigate to Fallout 4/Data and cross reference the archive's files. - Delete every file and folder in the Data folder that matches the files in the Archive. That means all NIFs, textures, ESPs, etc. pertaining to the IF-54. - Extract the contents of the archive to Data folder. - Try spawning the weapon again. It's important to delete, and not just copy over and overwrite. NMM uses links, and I don't know if the links themselves are removed on overwrite. sadowson
Okay, so I've uninstalled ALL mods just for safety and then done exactly as you've said. Huh. It worked. IF-54 is working perfectly in the game. Can spawn it, equip it, reload it and shoot it. Would that suggest that there's a problem between NMM's virtual install and Fallout 4 or something else? ehtyeci
Cool. It's hard to say. If I would hazard a guess, the hard links became invalid at some point. Maybe the virtual install folder got relocated or deleted? I would completely sanitize Fallout 4/Data, Install Info and Virtual Install folders, keeping only the NMM mod archive directory. This forces an init on all of NMM's mod listing, and you can start installing mods correctly. When you uninstall a mod, make sure you right-click the mod > Uninstall or Delete > From All Profiles. Don't use the Disable icon.
