Demetriuz
Just bought a geforce 9800 and im wondering if its eny good?
macmert
If it is a GTX 512, it is quite effective, but I would recommend 8800 GT 512 and a little overclock because it is cheaper...
Triforce1
Indeed. While the 9800 is the only one of the 9 series I would consider upgrading to at present, I have an 8800 GTX overclocked by BFG. All of the lower 9 series cards have less power for more money, and even the 9800 is only a little better. My suggestion: find an overclocked 8800 Ultra. That is already cheaper than the 9800, and better too.

I haven't had time to look at benchmarks, so is a 8800 GTX faster than a 9800 GTX, or can the 9800 GTX outperform the 8800? The reason I bring this is up is that on paper, it appears that the 9800 GTX isn't performing as well as the old 8800, or could I be very wrong? macmert
Well I didnt really dig up any benchmark scores but AFAIK 9800 series are not cards that is really the card for the money, they are more expensive and the performance difference is not that much compared to 8800 series, so a 8800 GT with 512 MB or a better 8800 GTS 512 would be a better choice... Today I saw the new cards for nvidia on gamespot, the 260 series or something like that, the prices are steep but the performance is much much better then the 9800 series, so the 9800 would get cheaper, but the bad thing is this new set of cards require like 550 W for power source, which means heating problems... I have 2 gigs of ram, 8800 GTS OC and a dual core something and I play on ultra high, everything topped to the greatest detail and I am forcing AA, did no OC and the game works well... The thing is I dont play latest games much, since I still play Imperialism II, Chaos Gate and FM 08 :D so I dont pay for high end cards :D
Michlo
To the OP, I find it odd that you would make this thread. If you just bought it, surely you are finding out for yourself how good you think it is? I'm confused. Anyway, I have the nVidia GeForce 9800 GX2 and love it. It can handle anything I throw at it. Oh and yes, it does outperform the 8800s but in some benchmarks, only slightly. Still, it is better future-proofing. Cheers.
