buddah
Could be server saturation, there is only so much bandwidth the more connections the slower the download. While there is a 150kb cap on the public servers, there is no guarantee of download speeds. Not even on the premium servers, although they are usually much faster than the public ones. Your connection speed is between your modem and the source of your highspeed local source. Usually within a few miles of your home/office. There the equation gets a lot more complicated, you have to know the local usage between the dslam/aslam and the edge server, also conditions on the sonet netework from the edge server to the core servers in the ATM even a problem with a DNS server can cause a bottleneck or failure here can also effect your download speeds. Also the source of the download may be experiencing congestion or heavy traffic volume which will slow downloads. I know this sounds quite technical, but this is what I do for a living....anything that affects the ATM network may have an adverse effect on downloads, remember this if man made it will break or fail at some point in time. Try a different server and see if that helps. As these problems are generally localized and temporary in nature. Sometimes are self correcting, when the daily resynchronization of the servers takes place. Buddah
