Noobish question about Skyrim on SSD

So im planning on installing an SSD and move my Skyrim in it with all the mods. Im not really interested in making my other windows assets such as windows loading and browser loading benefit from the SSD. Honestly i only care about Skyrim running better so i dont really wanna go through the complicated for my stupid brain main SSD installation and setting up SSD as primary boot drive, installing a new windows on it bla bla bla. I just want to plug the SSD and move Skyrim in it.

Question is: will my Skyrim benefit from all the SSD improvements over my shitty HDD when all the other files such as OS and what not being already installed on my HDD? If no then it should be as easy as just plugging the new SSD, connecting the SATA to it and moving Skyrim, right?

Hi

It depends on how you mod.

Skyrim is a load as you go game so high content areas can get pauses & stutter.

I add lots of NPCs to my game. On a standard HD my game has lots of load-in pauses & stutter. On a high performance HD(10,000rpm) it has slight pauses approaching high concentrations of NPCs. On a SSD the only pause I notice is the one approaching Whiterun gate.

Like you I couldn't care less about OS load times. That is not why I bought SSDs.

Moving your game to faster media is a logical step.

Later.

Yep, should have mentioned stuttering too, good call. But unless you are suffering terrible stuttering and therefore you are certain it is the slow hard drive what is bottlenecking your gaming experience, money is better spent elsewhere, better gpu is the usual example but, again, depends on your bottleneck. You (OP) say you want skyrim to run "better", note an ssd won't get you better framerate and won't allow you to run it at a higher resolution or with higher res textures or better general graphic effects, enb, etc. Particulary if you are not interesting in having your OS and general programs there, which will be one of the main advantages of an ssd. That's why I said what I said, make sure your particular skyrim gaming setup will benefit in a way you actually care about, not everyone gets noticiable stuttering when changing outdoor areas, not everyone cares about load times.

Yes i know it wont give me fps and yes i have great cpu and gpu. Its just stuttering outside with heavy graphics and lots of extra objects. Another thing i get is lag spikes when loading new NPCs and/or delays and sound delays. For example a bunch of RotE modified vampire nightdemon murderlords appear in a city in a group and start attacking everyone. I will get lots of lag spikes. Another example is sound delays when im in the wild. Lets say im running in a direction and suddenly a bunch of wolves attack me. I kill them but i hear no sounds. Suddenly 5 seconds after combat end i start hearing all of their howls, bite and death sounds they were supposed to do during combat. Im sure its not a malicious mod and it has happened a little bit with vanilla game too. Alot of people on different forums report fixing thoose exact same problems when upgrading to an SSD from a really shitty HDD. I have also tweaked all possible enb and nvidia control panel settings for stutter free gameplay and stutter gets reduced but still persists.

Not sure about the audio lagging, are audio files that heavy? Don't know so there might be something else but an ssd should help with the stuttering. You could first try defragmenting your drive but I wouldn't expect much from that, specially since you say it's a very shitty one.

As far as installation is concerned it should be as easy as pluging the sata, creating a partition on the disk manager I guess and moving the game, I haven't moved steam game away from where steam is installed so as to have some on the hdd and some on ssd so can't tell you anything specific. It's also possible to migrate your OS installation to the ssd (given it fits) keeping it intact and saving the pain that is reinstalling everything, there are various tools for that. But just moving skyrim should help as much as moving everything as far as skyrim is concerned imo.
