Sukiel
Sorry if this has been brought up before. I did a quick search and didn't see anything about it other than people saying you couldn't do it or suggesting to just not join the thieves guild. If anyone knows of something similar or if something like this is currently in the works, please let me know. Anyway, I thought it would be really cool if say, when meeting Brynjolf for the first time, instead of helping him, you could either flat out refuse or set him up instead some how (placing the ring on him or something). Upon deciding to no join the thieves guild, after a time, an npc would preform the tasks you would have if you had joined them, bringing the thieves guild back to their former glory. The thieves guild would have a presence in all of the towns, npc thieves running out of houses with loot would become more common, guards would slowly stop trying to capture them until they just flat out look the other way. At this point, some trigger occurs (someone knows you set up or refused Brynjolf or some other trigger) and you become tasked with taking down the thieves guild and bringing the leaders to justice. This could be done though various quests like investigating particularly high-profile heists, sabotaging others, ect and slowly tarnishing their reputation until it is time to move in and capture the leaders (this could be done by keeping them as unkillable and then guards that accompany you escorting them to prison after their health is lowered enough). I've never done any modding other than making simple adjustments or building personal houses in the previous games, so I don't know how hard this would be to do.
