Mikeparkin1990
I could do with some Help if anybody can. This may be so easy to fix but for the life of me can't figure it out. I'm currently working on my very first mod and may have bitten off more than I can chew, but i am making good progress (in my opinion). My mod is called area 37 and is basically a new world space will a huge military bace, prison and massive airport. My problem is this, in my military base iv got huge buildings and high off the ground walkways Wich look very impressive. But when I enter the game to test I can't see any of the buildings in the distance. Objects seem to appear as I gt closer to them but if I walk backwards they disappear again. Even mountains have this problem. All you see is sky until u get close. This kinda ruins my ideas in the sence that the large buildings are ment to be impressive but that doesn't matter if u can only see the from 4 foot away. So, how can I increase the deapth of view in my world space? Hope you can help and you will probaly be seeing a lot more of my novice questions over the conning months. Cheers

Cheers It's your game's settings, play with your graphics to see where they best appear...you also may have the buildings too far apart or even have a LOD issue since you can see the Nellis hangars from the edge of the base housing around it (before doing the run to avoid getting blown up to reach Nellis). The mojave has LOD already generated, but you'v created a new world space so you have to generate LOD settings for it. LOD are reduced level of detail, so when your far away from an object (say a mountain) the computer doesn't generate the actual model, instead the object is rendered in much lower detail (poly count and texture). My understanding is that without LOD just about everyone's pc would crawl to a virtual standstill because it wojuld be trying to render a enormous number of detailed models in teh gamebyro engine. Even with a 4xSLI and a 8 core cpu that just isn't going to fly. I'm at work now so I can't link you to the LOD tutorial I have bookmarked, but I have used this one in the past. Generating LOD for a large worldspace can be very cpu intensive and may tie up your rig for hours (even on a high end machine). But if you don't your mod will be dependent on whatever teh player has his/her personal settings at. And some people keep it very low for performance concerns. BTW just a newbie, so feel free to double check the above info. Edited March 23, 2012 by devinpatterson
Mikeparkin1990
Thank you David for explaining how the Los works. Understand the problem now and don't think I'll have too much trouble finding a tutorial now I know what to look for. Keep an eye out for my mod. LoneGhostOne
ok now you said this was your first mod right? well one main thing to remember is to not go overboard with the entity when you have a crap ton of NPC and/or items in on area it causes crashing issues but anyways sounds interesting, and please try to balance the loot so its not a cake walk for 300 mini nukes
