Skyrim Soundtrack mod.

Would I be allowed to post a mod page for a soundtrack mod that uses copyrighted material, but the source file is uploaded elsewhere? (Like Mediafire)

Of course, there is no profit from this and I claim no ownership of the songs.

I like how you said pirating rather than infringing on copyright

@OP Meh. This site is stingy about these things. Best not, unless you don't mind being banned.

Don't be an ass, it's the same thing. Putting copyrighted music (or any other copyrighted materials) up for download is pirating of that material.

If I was being an Ass, I'd call you a f***ing numb-nut for not being able to distinguish two entirely different words with different meanings, and then proceed to tell you to go have some lovey time with your dog.

But I digress.

Pirating is when you, say, take Mass Effect and put it up for download alongside a crack for it.

Copyright infringment is when you, say, take a voice file from Mass Effect and upload it. Copyright infringment, however, has caveats. If the copyrighted material is used under the fair use policy, the correct steps have been made to inform the copyright holder of your intent (Whether they reply or not within a certain time-frame), you state that the copyrighted material is being used under the fair-use policy, it ain't pirating. It's being used fairly.

There are also other legal ways to go about uploading copyrighted content, but meh.

And your "Pirating anything is not permitted here" statement is wrong. You must have the author's permission to upload his content if you want to host files on this site. If I were to download a free-ware program under a free-distribution license, I would still need the author's permission to upload it here.

Not sure where you are from, but you are wrong on a lot of your statements here.

Pirating is the illegal distribution of any copyrighted materials, physical or digital. Distributing said materials along side DRM removing/bypassing is another violation in and of itself. Uploading copyrighted assets to a file share site and then linking it to anyone or making it public in any way without legal permission to do so is pirating.

And go read the site terms, mods will ban anyone for pirating of any copyrighted material when is is admitted to on this site. I suggest you go spend some time in the bans forums reviewing why a lot of folks get banned.

I'm not going to argue further with you on this subject, and I hope a site admin can comment here one way or the other. If I am wrong, I will apologize and admit as much, but I don't believe I am.

Whoa, Easy there people. I was just asking a question, not looking for an argument of pirating / copyright infringement.

But thanks for the replies anyway. I think I'll contact a mod though to get a second opinion.
