Steevonator
Hi! I'm new to the forums (but not new to TES), and I want to start contributing to the modding community. I have some ideas for mods! These ideas are here for anyone to pick up on, and eventually if I can get help, I'll get to work on them myself. I'll need some help in some aspects of modding. Here is my list of mods I hope to make (info below) - Overhaul: change the way 3rd person operates, as well as the combat system in general (this is my White Whale so to speak) - Graphics: change the skybox to operate in a realistic way. - Regions: I'd like to create a new region at some point. Akavir would be great. 3rd Person Combat OverhaulThe purpose of this mod is to make 3rd person combat totally different. It involves a few things. One good feature is to improve blocking graphics/models by giving every possible attack move a block move to match- so a sword stroke from the side is blocked appropriately (this will increase immersion). There are other ways to improve combat, for example in 3rd person a lock system would be handy for some players. I also think that the way the player moves could be better- 3rd person movement always seemed unrealistic to me. I'd like to know if perhaps the camera/movement data could be modified to give it more of a Fable/Assassin's Creed style of movement control- that means that camera control is secondary to the combat itself. If anyone is interested in seeing this happen, let me know! I doubt I could even begin this myself. A high level of programming expertise would be necessary. Skybox GraphicsSo, the main thing about the sky box and the way the sun affects lighting annoyed me just a little. see, I noticed that the sky lights up from the whole horizon, rather than from the direction the sun is (please correct me if I'm wrong). I believe this could be fixed by tilting the sky box so that the top is actually nearer to the horizon. That way when the sun rises, the sky is lit up from that direction and vice versa. I'm interested in making this mod compatible with as many other environmental mods as possible, maybe going so far as to include them in the mod with thanks to the creator (e.g the Milky Way Galaxy Texture v1.2). One more change would be the sunset and sunrise, making them look more realistic would be a good addition to the game. If anyone wants to help me change the lighting/sky system I'd be honored! New RegionI'd like to get to work on creating part of Akavir. There's so little information about the place, but I believe that it would be a great project to work on personally. I would need help in modelling, for example there are a few races to create, architecture to design and perhaps some trees and textures needed. While I'm only in the preliminary stage of development in this (and the other mods) I'd like a lot of help in doing them, as my only skills are map building and story building. So, please voice your support and get to work on these mods if you so wish!! I would be more than happy for someone else to make these mods, as right now I'm just putting my ideas out there. so please, if you're an experienced modder and want to see any of this happen, let me know and we can discuss how it will work and the features etc. and give some criticism, but remember this is just a little brainstorm and me introducing myself!!! SinderionsBones
You have presented three ideas that are all either not possible, or effectively not possible. Just so you know where you are. The new region idea I would even call a stereotypical red flag for someone who hasn't the slightest clue what they're getting into. I mean no offense whatsoever, I like to see mods made, especially creative ones. Have you made a good house mod yet? Try making a small town in the tamriel worldspace somewhere with an NPC for each house, appropriate navmeshing, a merchant, and maybe a small quest. When you've done that(no one needs to see it, just to have some experience in the concepts), really done it, ask yourself again about making a region. The skybox and 3d combat things are not even approachable by any reasonable techniques developed thus far. They are just not good areas to mess with if you actually want to accomplish anything. Also intended as constructive criticism, 99.9% of mod ideas have zero value to the community unless a large chunk of the mod is done. Even if you're looking for a team to start something, you need a good base on which to start. Sometimes it can be just a story, but usually it's a rough dungeon already made, or a few required interiors and edited exterior cells prepped for more detailed work later. Places to start, assuming you are at all interested in the creation kit, versus just 3D modeling on your own(also very hard to get into if you're not already): http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Creation_Kit_Interface You said something about 'map building'. If, by this, you meant making stuff in the editor, awesome, never mind on the tutorial part. Edited March 25, 2012 by SinderionsBones
