thomriis
Okay This is really bugging me,for some strange reasons skyrim has suddenly begun to heavily task my laptop like crazy. No matter what settings i choose it seems the same when i launch the game, what i mean is that low settings looks excactly the same as high settings, I tried everything; game booster, newest updated nvidia drivers, newest direct x,cff explorer with app can handle 2gb adress space, skyrim performance boost mod, It cant be virus either, cause it only happens with this game. Funny thing is that two days ago it ran like a charm, now it runs like it got an arrow in the knee, im wondering if my video card(NVIDIA GTX 460m) even responds to the settings i choose,my cpu is an intel i7core 740qm 1.7ghz so it should at least be able to run the game smoothly on medium settings. So dear DOVAKHINS HELP ME IF YOU CAN
Rennn
I would be surprised if that cpu could run Skyrim smoothly on medium settings. Your video card is similar to mine, and I can run Skyrim on high settings smoothly, so I'm guessing it's the cpu. Having said that, it's probably the 1.5 patch as well. It caused a framerate drop for a lot of people. If your cpu has at least two cores, but preferrably four for the largest benefit, try the multithreading tweaks in this guide.http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12161 Also check to see what shadows resolutions are set at in your Skyrimprefs.ini. If the resolution is 4096, defintiely turn it down to 2048 or something because 4096 shadows devour vram on mid-range cards.
thomriis
Thanks for replying, My cpu does have 4 cores and able to go up to 2.8ghz (thought that was enough) , what puzzles me is the sudden change in performance drop, maybe my save files are getting to huge with 3 quick saves and i saved around 600 times on 3 different files, thought i would see a performance boost with the larger address space so it could make more use of my 8gb ram,but sadly no. when you write, that i should change shadow resolution in the ini setting,do you mean shadowmapresolution cause i cant seem to find the specific line. one more question i would like to ask: do mods have a significant performance use when you play or do you need a lot before you see a drop in fps. THANKS ANYWAY its always nice when someone is willing to help.
