NoAardvarksAllowed
Do you want to edit the existing audio files or do you want to add your own to the game? Or both? To edit existing ones, you need to extract them from the Skyrim - Sounds.BSA. I use a program called BSA Browser to do that. It can be found here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=1395. When you're done editing the files, you put them in your Sound or Music folder, depending on what file it is. The music in the game is in the .xvm format, but the game can read music files if they are converted to .wav. Sound effects are already in the .wav format. No other format than .xvm and uncompressed .wav can be loaded by the game. To add music to the game, you start by putting your .wav tracks in the Music folder. Then you make a new Music Track (MUST) in the CK (Object window>Audio>Music Track), that points to a .wav file in the Music folder, for every piece of music you want to add. You can give the MUST entry conditions to when and why it plays. See the CK wiki on MUSTs (http://www.creationkit.com/Music_Track). To get the music to play in the game, you need to add it to one of the existing playlists (MUSC)--found under Music Type in the CK--or make a new one. A new one will only be played in Skyrim if you make the mod use it somewhere, or in some situations, in the game world. Generally, it's easier to use the existing playlists that already have defined conditions as to when they are used. To see which is played where, r-click the MUSC entries and pick Use Info in the drop-down menu. See the CK wiki for more on MUSCs (http://www.creationkit.com/Music_Type). When you've created your MUSTs and added them to the MUSCs, you just save as a new .esp plugin. Be careful to have all your Music Track file paths assigned--if one is empty when you try to save, the CK will crash and you'll loose all your work. So save often and preferably under different file names, so you always can roll back to an earlier version of your mod, should you mess something up. Remember that no copyrighted music material can be uploaded on the Nexus (without explicit permission by the holder of the copyright). Doing so WILL get you banned. For this reason I made a mod that lets everyone add their own music to Skyrim without using the CK (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=13286). You can always load that up in the CK to see all the details on how to add music, should this post not give you all the details you want.
