Dan3345
In the last month I have to restart my game over again because at some point (without me noticing) my save will become corrupted, and since I hadn't noticed my other saves will be too. In my case this is because at any given time I only keep 5 to 10 backup saves from earlier points. And, if I don't notice a problem, then I will save over older ones, and then notice when its too late. My indication for corruption is four things. 1. Bound sword after about 20 hours into a save (for the last two gamesaves I have had) will at some point break. When I go to summon the sword it play the animation and then as soon as the sword appears the game crashes. No idea what is causing this, and I have found no fix. You can imagine how annoying this is when you are playing as a spellsword as I frequently do. 2. Scripted events in the game become hugely delayed. Completed quests will not register in the game as completed until literally an hour later, or I will activate a shrine of the divines and the effect won't activate for a few minutes. 3. Loading screens triple in length. I noticed this in the fallout games as well, where after a while as the savegame grows and bloats, every loading screen begins to take much more time to load even the simplest of cells. 4. This could be nothing. Honestly I haven't watched this as closely as I should because its not something I see directly by playing the game. But I think there is correlation with corruption and bloat and the overall size of the save itself. Ok now you are probably wondering what the point of this is. Well its simple, I am trying to figure out what is the root cause or trigger of corruption. I think it is gamesave bloat. But that raises the question, what is gamesave bloat? Well in my experience it seems to be related to mods that are installed. So if you install a mod, or many as in most cases, that makes the save have more references. Removing the mod does not alleviate this because the save has some sort of references to it anyways. Not sure if this can be fixed. This can however (I think) be avoided by keeping the mod installation and removal to a minimum. I am under the impression that if you stick to the same set of mods throughout the life of the save, you may be able to mitigate the saves changes and bloat. Can anyone else please post your experiences with a corrupted save? I am really trying to figure out how to avoid it and what is a trigger, seeing as how lately I have been very prone to getting them.
Kodiak412
Typical save game files for vanilla are in the 3 to 5 meg range at the start and will be in the 14 to 20 meg range toward the end. If your saves are deviating from this quickly then you probably have a mod that is "polluting" your game. This could be the source of corruption. Keep in mind that anyone can go into the CK and create a mod. They do not even have to have an understanding of what side effects may be created if they make changes. There could be a mod that is leaving junk, even invisible junk, all over the game and you may not even know it. Some mods will clean up after themselves but if you read the forums you will see there are mods that do not.
Dan3345
How would you know if this is the case besides watching the save bloat up? How could I see if this is the case within my own mod?
Kodiak412
I do not know enough about the CK to give you any kind of good answer. However you if find some mods and read through their comments sections occasionally you will find someone who knows, and they will comment what they need to do to correct this situation. You could try doing some reading in the mod section, even post some questions there. Good luck.
