cajetethaog
I thought I'd try my luck here considering this is a modding site, people might be more intimately familiar with the game and it's setting. The problem I'm having is shadow pop-in on NPCs/Companions and missing ankles/feet. I must iterate, it's specifically on NPCs/Companions and my own characters shadow. I'm fairly familiar with ini settings myself and initially I thought cranking up fBlendSplitDirShadow to about 500-1000 might help by making the transitions smooth. But apparently this doesn't apply to NPCs and only shadows casted on terrain by trees, buildings, flora, etc. I've tried increasing the resolution even as high as 8192 for testing purposes and tampered with many combinations of shadow res and uiOrthoShadowFilter, uiShadowFilter, and iDirShadowSplits. I've tried clean installs and ini's generated by the launcher itself. Ultra settings still give me pop-in but less pronounced. BTW, I run ultra at a steady 50-60 fps, so it's doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. Plus, many of my other games are running just perfectly. Something I noticed is that by increasing uiOrthoShadowFilter up to 3 I can eliminate the issue of feet/ankles not casting shadows because this setting apparently controls the quality of shadows casted by NPCs/Companions. But upon increasing that quality the pop-in of distant NPC shadows becomes more pronounced because the jump is now more exaggerated. My specs are: FX-8350 @ 4ghz, GTX 1050 ti w/ drivers up to date, 16gb DDR3, 200gb SSD, 1tb HDD, Windows 10 64bit w/ latest fall update. I've made a post on reddit and the Bethesda forums and no-one seems to have an answer. I've never had this issue before and it just recently started. As far as mods go I only really just use Old World Blues radio station, DEF_UI, and Caliente's Body for females. I also want to add that I've used tools like Bilago and Bethini as well as my own custom tweaks but to no avail. This is driving me insane-- I've been trying to fix it for days now. Anyone? Please help me. SOLVED try changing/adding iMaxFocusShadows to something higher than 1, and then try changing/adding fMaxFocusShadowMapDistance to something higher than 450 Edited January 12, 2018 by kingcajete
