heathxxx
Hi all  I had the original version of Fallout: New Vegas, but gave it to a friend. Bought myself the Ultimate Edition, to save me having to download all the additional DLC. So as you can imagine, I love looking through all the mods available via Nexus and decided to see if installing some would work ok using the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM). Managed to bork my game in numerous ways, so have uninstalled the game, reinstalled and am after starting from scratch. :wallbash: Some of the basic retexture mods worked a charm with NMM, but some of the more complex really made a hash of things. Is there an older Mod Manager utility that works (still) for this version of the game, that picks up "optional" aspects of mods when trying to install them? I have already done the archive invalidation stuff, so all set there. Cheers!
Gribbleshnibit8
It depends on how the optional parts are handled. If they're subfolders of the main file, along the lines of:Root -textures -option1folder -option2folder -etcfoldersIf that's what the mod looks like, then the only real way to handle that (without splitting it all up) would be to have an install script that will give you choices to install the optional parts and handle moving them to the correct places. Some mod authors like to package up a folder containing all their files, something like:Root -My Mod Title --Data ---texturesFOMM (and I guess NMM) might not detect that correctly. When I download any mod, I unpack them into a folder and rearrange all the files in a way that will be easy to install. If the mod requires it, I'll write a script to help me with the installation. This tutorial will help you learn how to write the install script. They're pretty easy once you know what you're doing and you can do a lot with them. Alternatively, if it's a complex texture mod, you might appeal to the author and see if they'll make an install script for it. It's really in their interest to make it easy for people to use their mod (if they care, and some don't).
heathxxx
Cheers for the reply and the pointers. I'm going through the mods I like the look of a lot more carefully. I guess the way people are presenting mods and the ease of use of packaging things for NMM with Skyrim, means people are perhaps more preoccupied with that, rather than with New Vegas. Like you say though, it's a shame some of the mod creators haven't updated or looked at ease of use as much as with Skyrim, because there's some excellent looking mods that are a pain to get working.
