Strange CTD issues

I keep running in to this unusual CTD issue. the game loads up just fine. i load a savegame and that loads just fine and plays just fine. but when i try to load another savegame or the same savegame, or return to the main Menu i get CTD

I used to have that problem, try to defrag and do a diskclean, hope it helps...

defrag means to defragment your hard drive.

 

If you don't know, there is a windows routine for this. It can be found on an XP system by going to - start - All programs - Accessories - System Tools - disk defragmenter. On Vista I'm not sure, but it should be similar.

 

If you have never done it, it may take quite a while to finish, depending on your hard drive, amount of ram and system speed it could be several hours.

 

A defrag can speed up your computer, especially on loading stuff - Oblivion loads a lot while it runs. I'm sure you have noticed the delay when you go into a new area, open a door, open a chest or level up. These are all for loading some information from the hard drive. If that information is scattered all across the hard drive in small clusters, it takes longer than if the same information is all in the same place.

No, the defrag will not have any affect on mods at all. it just rearranges the parts into a more orderly arrangement.

Ok I defragged m y C Dive and moved some clutter to my E Drive but i'm still having the problem. would anyone be able to tell if it was one of thse mods?

did you disable all your mods to see if CTD s continue? if CTD 's continue with the mods disabled, there might be another issue, try diskclean, so your temp files will be erased, other then that I cant be sure what causes it...

I had the same problem for a while. I think it was caused by a particular mod, or how a particular mod reacted with another mod. I don't remember the mod though.

 

I do remember removing DLC Horse armor for some reason but I don't remember if it was that one or not.

 

Have you noticed any difference in loading speed since you defragmented?
