Custom Weapons using Default Animations?

Hi!



I'm working with a team to develop a mod that includes a custom weapon and a custom armor, my 3D artist has experience working with maya but the Nifskope and other bits that enable the models to work within Fo4's framework are a little bit foreign to us. Since my artist isn't that big on animation, I was wondering if it would be possible to just re-use one of the default animations but with the custom meshes that we are providing?



Are there any resources we can use to see how to make sure that the bones/mesh structure of our models matches what is necessary to work with the animations?



Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your custom weapon is it a rifle, pistol, revolver or? Just use the respective default animation keyword on your custom weapon. You have to decide if the animation only affect the player or all other NPCs. In any case ,you have to create animation subgraph. I have an article you can take a look (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/articles/548). Its adding custom weapon animation to pistol but the logic is more or less the same. To make the animation really look nice on your custom weapon, you will have to modify the animation. But that's probably another area of discussions ...

If you r using default weapon animation, just add the rifle animation keyword (a few combinations of them) to your custom weapon.

 

 

If you wanna customize the reload or separate the animation for male & female or total new weapon movement or changes anything, you need to create animation subgraph.

) for adding custom weapon animation.

 

The most tedious part is the subgraph metadata generation. Pretty much trial and error. If the metadata is not generated properly, you will have slow motion animation and other animation abnormalities.

 

Basically, create your own weapon animation keyword. Then you copy the default animation subgraphs + adding your keyword. For your custom subgraph, you have indicated a new animation folder where you place all your new animation files. Generate the subgraph metadata.

 

P.S. you can take a look at my GA mod. I have added quite a few custom animations for pistol, rifle and make them female only + a few other things.
