Hello, noob here...

I kind of stumbled on the whole modding business here, and I think I got the hang of it pretty good (installing and playing mods). NMM is so easy, and it works great. There is one thing though...

SkyUI says it needs Skyrim Script Extender. I found it with google, but isnt it kind silly to have no mention of it here in Nexus? I mean "everything is simple and works great EXCEPT this mod needs this bit to work, and you need to get it somewhere find it yourself". So now I need to start Skyrim from the extender exe. Is that going mess with NMM?

Not complaining, just saying thats a bit much to someone who is completely new to this. Especially as Dual Wield Parrying then wants something called Script Dragon (or maybe wants, its very hard to tell with all the optional downloads and not so simple directions). I understood it might work "good" only with the SD. Anyway, I think I found the site for SD too, but damn. It seems I might mess up my install or something, if Im not careful with all the extenders and modmanagers and whatnot. I have no clear understanding of their function, Im just trying to follow directions, but its getting kinda hard.

And after all this, there is no easy way to tell ie if I need Script Dragon, or if maybe SKSE does everything SD was supposed to. Or is there perhaps a newer mod that has made "Dual Wield Parrying" obsolete?

Sorry if I went about this the wrong way, but can someone in the know help me a bit? Its all very confusing to me, as necessary information is not all in one place.

I tried to look for a noobs checklist for everything needed for carefree mod installing, but I guess its not that simple :)

The SKSE team has been around for ages (since Oblivion atleast) and SKSE is relatively safe. I'm not sure why they don't upload SKSE to the Nexus.

Script Dragon has also been around for a while though this is it's first iteration for a Bethesda game.

SKSE extends the game's built-in scripting system with new capabilities while ScriptDragon allows modders to inject their own C++ scripts. SKSE will require you to use it's executable and it won't mess with NMM (NMM actually has the ability to launch Skyrim via said executable without you having to make a shortcut). ScriptDragon on the other hand, simply needs to be placed in the root \Skyrim\ folder of your installation directory. They work together without any issues as well.

I see. I was worried SD would perhaps be an older thing and no longer needed + possibly messing things up if installed with SKSE. It would help to have a "tour of all needed things" (not just NMM tutorial) somewhere where noobs will be looking while they scratch their heads :)

I got everything working, and now Im dual wield blocking like a pro! Thanks for the help!

The Script Dragon downloads section at Nexus seems outdated. I downloaded it from the makers own page to be sure about version compatibility. Can't endorse it now :/

The only thing I would add to this is that both SKSE and Script Dragon have to be matched to your version of Skyrim patch level. SKSE usually catches up fast but Script Dragon seems to take a couple of days or so.

So make sure you keep Steam OFFLINE to prevent auto updates until both are available, or be prepared to run without them for a while.
