Fallout 3 crash on startup

Ok, to start I am not new to modding. Although this is my first time modding Fallout 3, and if even 1 mod that has an esp is active the game crashes on startup. I have tried looking around for the solution but no one seems to have the same problem. I have FOMM and FOSE, the game is patched to 1.7 and I have the shadows turned off as I usually do. You are in for some painful and stressful times if you think this is the beginning and end of your problems with Modding Fallout 3

some details please

- load order

- have you set your ini to bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 ?

- what .net frameworks have you installed?

- did you uninstall the fallout 3 installation of .net framework 3.5?

- what c++ redists have you installed?

- what is your pc spec?

there's many reasons why this could be happening so we need details... without the hissy fit.

This is not a fast-moving section of the forum, given New Vegas and Skyrim. 23 hours is not long enough to wait for a reply before throwing a fit.

What mod are you trying to use, and what is your load order?

First off I wasn't having a fit, I was excepting the truth. As you said New Vegas and Skyrim.

My load order is:

Anchorage

BrokenSteel

COL Enclave Hell

Colossus BOS

Colossus Outcast

Fallout3

Josef Greys Kozaburo hairstyle for Fallout 3

Also I did do the bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 thing to my Fallout3.ini

Ok well straight off your first problem is definitely your load order.

Fallout3.esm must ALWAYS ALWAYS be first in the load order.

Download BOSS if you haven't already to auto change the load order to the most accurate possible and follow the install instructions. I highly recommend the installer version. It's the most up to date one for one thing. Hopefully you should be far more stable afterwards.

You're welcome . Whenever you add new esms or esps always run boss once they're activated in FOMM.

After that always double check the added mods readme file incase you have to disobey BOSS's order for some reason e.g. an esp that MUST go last or an ESM that must be above a certain other esm etc. etc.

  • 3 years later...
My game keeps crashing. I have no idea what I'm doing at all, I've watched videos and done everything with the ini but I can't get the game to start. I've loaded the mods correctly I think, uninstalled them and the game still won't play. I need serious help
