2 identical files in override folder

Hi, noob here. I've got a question about having 2 of the same files in the override folder.

I have ZDF installed already and now I'm installing MRP, so when I go to install MRP Additional Epilogue Fix, I see a conflicting file: cutscene_postcoronation.dlg

ZDF already has this file and they seem to be identical. It says in the description of MRP they are shared files. So my question is do I delete one of them? Does it matter which one? Does it hurt to have 2 of the same file in the override folder?

If someone could help clear this up for me it would be greatly appreciated.

âI'm using DAO Modmanager and it gave me an override is not compatible pop-up. Is there an easy way to tell what is not compatible when this happens?

âAny help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you

Well, if two files have the exact same name then only one of them will actually be loaded into the game.

Which one depends upon your folder structure. The Eclipse game engine uses a strict alphanumeric-by-folder (and folder level) search routine within the "\override" folder and will load the LAST one it finds.

So if the MRP version of the file is in a folder named "MRP", and the ZDF one is in a folder named "ZDF", the ZDF version would load because Z comes after M in the search. But if your folder names are something else... Well, you get the idea.

While I haven't ever used ZDF, I would assume that if the authors say that the file cutscene_postcoronation.dlg is "shared", they mean "identical". So in this particular case it wouldn't matter anyway!

Thanks for the info. It helps and I really appreciate you taking the time to explain. Looks like ZDF came with the 2 update files from MRP I was trying to install. I guess that's why DAO modmanager said there was a conflict when I went to install them.

Is there any way for DAO modmanager to show what files are conflicting when there is a problem? Or does it leave that up to the user to find out? If someone could point me in the direction of some good DAO modding tutorials that would be great.

Both mod authors point out in the relevant compatibility sections that any files with identical names have the same content with some intentional crossover between the mods.
Furthermore, TerraEx, the creator of MRP wrote that MRP would contain some additional script fixes and both mods would work perfectly side by side. He even concludes there would be no need to mess around deleting files and whatnot.

Thandal is right. A priority of ZDF over MRP is probable because of the alphanumeric order (A-Z). But there could be variations depending on the exact location of the identical files (see source directory priorities)
The priority depends on folder location and level as well.

If in doubt, I would keep the relevant MRP file(s). (Last update MRP 2015, last update ZDF 2013.)

I have no answer to your question on DAO modmanager. Information on compatibility and tutorials can be found on the toolset wiki.
