NecroVamp
Hello Everyone, I'm currently saving my money for a MSI GT73VR4K. And from what I've gathered on the net, MSI installs the OS onto the SSD drive for better Windows performance. What I'd like to know is, where should the Operating System be installed for best performance from Skyrim Special Edition,Should it be left on the SSD or reinstalled onto the HDD? I am installing Skyrim SE to the SSD and trying to stay clear of any UAC or other MS Bloatware issues. Windows being fast is not really a concern of mine, but I want Skyrim SE to be hyper fast! Thank you for your time and experience! Edited January 24, 2018 by NecroVamp
Algabar
Using the SSD for Skyrim is clearly the best option regarding performance. Downside is, that SSDs typically have less storage space than normal hdds. And a fully modded Skyrim with lots of texture mods and so on will need a lot of disk space... When installing on the system drive, make sure to install Skyrim outside the standard directory c:/program files (x86). Use a dedicated directory like e.g. c:/games/skyrim. Some people have reported "access denied" issues when using the standard installation path on the system drive.
NecroVamp
Algabar Thank you for your response, but your solution has nothing to do with the Microsoft Windows 10 mounting location for best over all performance. Have a nice day!

Have a nice day!If you can install both to the same drive then you might as well be asking whether or not you should enable your GPU when running Skyrim for best performance. Unless there's a reason not to...
hellfire28
Put them both on the SSD. Having windows on an HDD is a terrible idea. There was a problem for Oldrim where the file path needed to not be on C: for a heavily modded game on Winodws 10 but I don't THINK that is a problem in SE. wfandrews
Not installing Steam on C:Program Files{86}, the default location, has nothing to do with mods but rather with Windows UAC. Windows is quite picky about changes to Program files and will often make you run the program as an Administrator in order for you to make changes to a program installed in C:Program Files. Installing Steam outside Program files quite often will save you some grief when trying to run programs associated with Steam games; like NMM, SKSE etc. Put them both on the SSD. NecroVamp
Thank you all for your replies,I play Oldrim Legendary atm and the install guide I used recommended I keep the game separate from the OS. Now that I'm able to get a nice gaming rig and move up to Special Edition, I was unsure if this was still an issue. If I do encounter issues, I guess I could always install a second SSD and separate the two then. But for now, I'll try them both on the same drive but keep the game in its own directory out of the OS's control.
