Constant FPS freeze

hi I am running on a i7, 4gb ram, and Nvidia GTX 560m SLI. For some reason, recently whenever I play, the game will run at a smooth 30 with enb and everything but every 30 secs it will freeze for literally a second then return to normal speed. Any ideas as to why that would happen? help would be much appreciated.

I'm willing to bet you're running low on RAM. With that rig, you're probably running ultra-ish settings but you don't have the RAM to support it.

But maybe I'm wrong...

I get the same thing with my single 560 and i7. I have 4gb ram too. The game runs great for a while but then after playing for around 10 minutes, I get random 1-5 second freezes before going back to 40-60 fps. I don't know what causes this, it seems to happen more often when I travel long distances, fast travel or leave/enter a city but even in those cases, it happens at random times. Some times I get 30 minutes between them but other times I get them every few minutes. Purging cell buffers(pcb) doesn't seem to make a difference. Edited by shotgun188

Pretty sure this is a RAM problem - or lack thereof. It's having to swap piles of information back and fourth because it's running out. Try this tweak:

Add/modify the following to your Skyrim.ini:

[General]

iNumHWThreads=4

fMasterFilePreLoadMB=40.0000

iPreloadSizeLimit=52428800

bUseThreadedMorpher=1

bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1

bUseThreadedTempEffects=1

bMultiThreadMovement=1

bDisableAllGore=0

bTrackAllDeaths=1

bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1

The important function for you here is bPreemptivelyUnloadCells making the engine purge areas and material it doesn't need, freeing up some ram.

Good luck.

And btw, max out the ram on your motherboard and run Win7 x64 Home Premium. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. Your system is beefy but it's crippled by the low ram available.

It doesn't affect AI on scripts that have already fired. This is why mucking with things like uGrids makes such a mess and will inevitably bork your game. bPreemptivelyUnloadCells will only affect cells that can be freed up because they are no longer needed. It's vital for low-ram systems.

Maybe me setting that value to 7 was what caused my problem...
