Constant FPS freeze

Pretty sure this is a RAM problem - or lack thereof. It's having to swap piles of information back and fourth because it's running out. Try this tweak:

Add/modify the following to your Skyrim.ini:

[General]

iNumHWThreads=4

fMasterFilePreLoadMB=40.0000

iPreloadSizeLimit=52428800

bUseThreadedMorpher=1

bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1

bUseThreadedTempEffects=1

bMultiThreadMovement=1

bDisableAllGore=0

bTrackAllDeaths=1

bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1

The important function for you here is bPreemptivelyUnloadCells making the engine purge areas and material it doesn't need, freeing up some ram.

Good luck.

And btw, max out the ram on your motherboard and run Win7 x64 Home Premium. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. Your system is beefy but it's crippled by the low ram available.

Do I add it to Skyrimprefs.ini or Skyrim.ini? Also, I read that at least in Oblivion, that causes some stuttering.

Something similar happens to me as well.

The game was running smoothly before the patch 1.5, 45-60 fps constantly whatsoever. Now every few minutes I get a 4-5 sec long full-stop freeze while music keep going.

I got 8gb RAM, a Core i7 and a GTX460 with 1gb VRAM on Win7x64 home premium. I don't think it would be a RAM issue, it feels like the program does a massive ammount of hard disc usage occasionally, but I don't really have proof for it. I also noticed that since patch my save game size went up from an average of 12-13 MB to 160MB+, more than a 10-fold increase.

I'm using quite a few a few addons, mostly for armors, updated them all, latest SKSE loader and a v1.02 ENB series profile with FXAA shaders, that was working super fine before.

Any ideas?

Read my post again, I said "Add/modify the following to your Skyrim.ini:"

And keep in mind, I made those settings for a low-ram system.

Download this ENB Series

Had the exact same problem, but after downloading that ENB Series patch, and adding my vendorid and deviceid, everything runs smooth without a single drop in quality or framerate.

I recommend it.

Adding more "stuff" isn't the solution here. When you're trying to fix a problem like this, remove mods, don't add them. ENB is easy to disable by simply renaming d3d9.dll to _d3d9.dll or something.

Something similar happens to me as well.

Your situation is likely mod-related, post a list of the one's you're using. And btw, the music will continue sometimes even in a hard crash, audio is an entirely different sub-system.

Well I've never been sure of the difference and a lot of people say "Skyrim.ini" when they mean the pref one, sorry.

Two words: BOSS and BASH. :)

You're using a lot of 'core' mods changers. Armors, clothes and especially textures are very rarely a problem. Anything that changes mechanics or engine functions can be a big problem.

I'm using BOSS, don't know what BASH is :) You can have my BOSS log too if you want.

Also my recent quicksaves are 150+ MB, I blame Dynavision for that, pity I can't test my saves without it, because it crashes the game if disabled. Saving /Loading takes at least 3-4x more time than they used to.

Like you said most of the other addons are texture mods, which shouldn't do any harm, the only mods that are changing some core functions are Dynavision, SkyUI, Categorized Favourites, Better Sorting and Deadly Dragons.

I disabled AutoUnequipArrows - didn't change the bug.

I uninstalled DYNAVSION, reloaded an older savegame when it wasn't installed yet and the problem was gone entirely. Also, the savegame sizes went back again from 200MB to 13MB.

Weird.
