crazyjoe2k
This happens with several mods i have, the character model textures for armors load as solid black but the ground object/inventory model are just fine. this mainly happens with mods that dont use archives for the texture/mod files. anyone have any idea how i can fix this? its a bummer cuz i cant use a lot of modded armors I want to because the textures dont load right :( 2 examples of mods this happens with includeBingles ArmoryNorthborn Fur Hoods Edited March 31, 2012 by crazyjoe2k
MShoap13
What's your OS and how much System and Video RAM do you have? Chances are you're running out of RAM. It's a longshot but you could check the [Launcher] section of SkyrimPrefs.ini (located at c:\Documents and Settings\*User Name*\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\) and see if the following line is present:bLoadLooseFiles=1 If that line is not present, or is set to 0, make it look like that^^. crazyjoe2k
I use windows XP, I have 3.25 gb of RAM and 512MB of VRAM on my Nvidia Geforce 7950 GT. The game runs great and loads everything fine, just some textures from mods are completely black. In Bingles Armory the cuirass textures are black on my character but load just fine for the inventory model, the helmet textures load fine as well. I don't know what the issue could be :s I added the ini setting and it didn't seem to affect anything
MShoap13
Yep, you're running out of VRAM. You could look for a "lite" version of the mod (with lower texture resolutions), lower your AA settings, turn off triple buffering, or anything else you can think of to reduce VRAM usage. Alternatively, you could always upgrade your Video card, my 7950 GX2 crapped out about 6 months ago so I picked up a 560 TI and I love it.
crazyjoe2k
I don't think its that cuz when textures dont load they show up as purple plastic objects, I think this might be more of an alpha-channel issue or something :s
MShoap13
Solid black and rarley solid blue textures are a common occurrence when running out of VRAM for Skyrim. Check the comments section of the mod(s) in question. If noone else is experiencing this then it's most likely safe to rule out problems with the mod itself. As stated earlier, lowering the amount of VRAM in use should cause these textures to work. As a test, try all of the things I mentioned before and maybe even bump the resolution waaaay down to 1024x768. If the textures show up when you've lowered memory usage, you have a pretty definitive answer to your issue.
crazyjoe2k
Not to discount your assistance, I greatly appreciate it. But f I'm running out of vram then i don't think it'd be so selective with what textures it loads? for example with the latest update to cloaks of skyrim both models of cloaks are available for both genders, the standard cloak model loads textures just fine but the "linen" cloak model loads completely black. I run the game on 800x600 resolution normally, and the textures are all 1024x1024 standard size. I'm stumped but I dont think its vram as I've never had this problem before the most recent patches :s
