GeorgiaCav
I could have sworn there was a mod at some point, or a tweak of some kind, that forced vendors to wear their own equipment rather than change into the best of whatever the PC sells them. I'd thought it was named something like "Vendors wear their own armor," but I've tried searching for that and numerous variations of the theme with no success. I also tried going through my old LO and mod archive (I'm a relentless hoarder) but couldn't find anything that seemed like the right thing. So am I dreaming? Was there such a mod? Is it still around? Anybody know where it is? Failing that, anybody want to make one? Thanks for any help.
NicotineCaffeine
Truth be told, i'm not sure it works for every merchant... I mean, i've met some who actually changed their equipment after i sold them some good stuff, but at the same time, lot of others that never did such thing, always keeping leather armor, traveler's hat and 10mm pistol.By the way, i guess it's just a matter to change something in their ai. dubiousintent
It's my understanding that as a merchant "owns" everything in their inventory (not matter which "container" as long as they "own" it and not merely have access to it), they will automatically wear anything that provides more protection than what they are wearing at the moment. AFAIK, this is engine behavior for "actors". Without examining every NPC, I would suspect the ones who don't seem to replace "their" outfits probably have some custom versions that provide superior effects, and anything that is removed/sold from them is an "alternate" version with the normal stats. (I do know this is what llamaRCA does in "Willow - A Better Companion Experience" with "Beauty".) Mod-wise you could probably produce the same effect by giving a token providing some bonus only as long as the item is in their possession, and removing that token along with the item. It occurs to me that some merchants may have their "stock" in containers they only have access to (owned by the cell or a faction) instead of direct "ownership". That might prevent them from wearing "stock" items in such a container. "Ownership" can get tricky. -Dubious- Edited January 31, 2018 by dubiousintent
GeorgiaCav
It may well have worked by giving each merchant special, upgraded versions of their vanilla outfits. And I may be imagining that it existed but I don't think so; I was too happy to find it. There was a mod, or a NVSE tweak, or something, that kept them from changing into equipment they'd purchased from the player character. Thanks for the responses, and if anybody knows such a mod, don't keep it to yourself.
dubiousintent
A quick search on "Vendors" in the Nexus turned up "Vendors Wear Their Own Armour". Is that perhaps what you might be recalling? The description indicates it only fixes Daniel Contreras at Camp McCarren. -Dubious-

dubiousintent
That's the 'intent': to get you thinking. Question everything. Research 'common knowledge' instead of blindly accepting. Verify for yourself. -Dubious- (is my nickname)

I searched that exact title several times, but apparently not in the Nexus. Google has become useless recently for searching for mods, and I blame the firing of James Damore. Thanks!
