Vampires Protection

i wanted to make a new vampire character, when i realised about the sun damage. I find it difficult to be this kind of character when you only get to really do anything at night.

Is it possible to make items to protect from sunlight during the day?

and if so, can someone send me the script/enchantment or make the items?

Unfortunately sun damage is tied into the vampire abilities, and its effects are more or less fixed. Ideally, it would probably work better to just remove it from the abilities entirely, then use additional scripting to add weaknesses or whatever durring the day. However as there are already a number of vampire mods out there that people are emotionally attached to, something of this sort would likely conflict with those. Then there's the whole face issue with vampirism, which kinda makes the whole thing bad for most people.

You basically have these options:

1: Remove sun damage from all vampires via the vampire-ability-spells

2: Make a copy of the vampire-abilities-spell and remove sun damage from the list, then modify the vampire-script to give this new spell to the player instead of the old.

3: Try to counter the effects of sun damage via scripting.

4: Lower the vampirism-level of your character when exposed to sunlight via scripting.

CONs:

1: Would kinda' remove the coolness of vampires imho.

2: Would be fine, but would eventually get messed up with mods changing stuff around the player and vampirism (would conflict heavily with almost any vampire mods).

3: None, really. But you might get some problems if you have very low health/fatigue/magicka (under 5 or so). Also, effects would show up in the upper right corner.

4: I don't know much about playing as a vampire (haven't done it, actually), but I presume there must be some kind of CON to this?

PROs:

1: Easy to do :)

2: Pretty easy to do, and very stable (provided you don't have any mods who modifies the player's vampirism).

3: Pretty clean. Would be easier to toggle via the hood (the former two examples would require OBSE to accomplish the same).

4: It would fix the face-problem Vagrant0 mentioned and might provide some kind of interesting gameplay?

If you chose #3, keep in mind that you can remove shaders from the player, including the sun damage shader.

EDIT:

Oh, is the sun damage tied to the sun damage effect (SUDG), the vampirism magic effect (VAMP) or the vampirism AV?

Forgive me for being vague, but I haven't got the CS here :(

The above post was written with the first possibility "in mind".

hmm, thx for the suggestions. i think i might just design my own vampire race and debuff em during the day, and just role-play the whole need a hood and cloak thing. I think its the easiest thing to do.

There's the Vampire Daywalker mod that removes sun damage. I don't know if it is compatible with other mods that alter vampirism. Also, I suggest using the Unofficial Oblivion Patch or another mod that fixes the bugs in the vampire script (such as the feeding script). The Vampire Face Bug Fix mod at TESNexus will prevent the face bug from happening to your character (also prevents the shemale bug); the mod requires OBSE.
