A Few General Notes on Vortex

I'm not the most experienced with the more advanced aspects of modding, but am familiar with the bare minimum, such as load order/LOOT, Wrye Bash, basic Xedit/automatic cleaning, etc. So please, keep that in mind as I give feedback:

  • All of my notes come from modding FNV, no importing:
  • There seems to be a several second hangup between clicking "download with manager" on the nexus and the download being accepted by Vortex, which is made worse as you queue mods. I'm unsure if this is normal for MO/NMM, as I haven't noticed it as much there as in Vortex.
  • When multitasking, such as browsing nexus, Win10 Vortex notifications remain in the notification toolbar, which is a minor inconvenience at worst but I found worth mentioning.
  • I have gotten several seemingly random crashes when attempting to install a mod while downloads are running, including one that happened as I was typing this up.
  • In general Vortex seems to be surprisingly user friendly, at least for newer and casual users.

As I come across more things of note I'll comment on my own thread, and if I notice any urgent issues I'll use the Vortex's feedback button, which is a useful addition.

  • After Spending a bit of time with Skyrim (LE and SE) one thing that has gotten very frustrating is general speed. Downloading manually is faster than using Vortex, since Nexus caps at 1mb per download, but manual allows you to have more than one download running at once.
  • Additionally, there are a lot of hiccups and hangups when attempting to multitask within Vortex, although I expect this will decline as development continues.
  • On a positive note, Skyrim is a much more stable modding experience than FNV.

Edge case that I've only noticed with a single mod:

  • I had to install SkyUI for LE manually, since it wouldn't recognize SKSE despite having installed it properly. I also attempted to add the SKSE scripts as a mod file, as done in MO, and this failed as well.
