How do body mods actually work

This is going to seem like a really stupid question but I'm relatively new to mods and I'm still not 100% sure with how everything works. I just wondered if someone could explain to me, in as basic format as possible, how body mods, so things like CBBE and UNP, actually work. I have UNP installed, but my character's body shape looks literally no different to vanilla. I just struggle understanding how body mods are actually implemented into the game as it isn't to do with racemenu its something else. I apologize if this is a really stupid question but I just don't really understand how this all works and it seems like these body mods make no difference whatsoever to my game when they're installed, even when i follow installation instructions etc.

the basics of this is that a character in this game consists of 4 parts (almost 100% sure this is correct) . these are the head , hands feet and the rest of the body (I don't count hair here , though it is an extra part)

these parts are made of a mesh file , and have a set of textures attached to it , and the model is attached to a skeleton , to which animations are connected

generally speaking , the game uses a single mesh file for male characters and a single mesh file for female characters (one of each body part) , and all characters with the same gender share the same models and textures (though there are mods that allow some characters to use different models or textures)

what body mods do is basically provide a different set of models and textures for the game to load , instead of the vanilla ones

now I'm not sure what exactly is the problem you are encountering (do you still see the vanilla body with no change? is the body too similar to vanilla , but not identical to vanilla?)

are you 100% certain you've installed the mods correctly? because most problems arise from improper mod installations

but if you could provide more information , maybe we could help you

whatever the case , I hope this explanation helps you

If you want to know more on this , maybe you should look at the file types and how everything mixes together , though it's not the easiest thing to understand

and if you have any more questions , feel free to ask
