Texture Problems

Recommended Posts

Ok I see the little holes. I am guessing it's either the diffuse maps is bugged, it has an alpha channel/alpha property. Not sure.

+1 - Photoshop has a tendency to get a peppered alpha channel in the dds when resaving a previously compressed texture -- open the diffuse texture and check the alpha channel and you'll probably see a bunch of black specs on it (this is what is causing the see through holes) -- If not using the alpha channel for some transparency then just save the texture without an alpha channel ( DXT1) or if using the alpha clean up the alpha channel by removing those black specs.

The nvidia plugin does work correctly for most.. Apparently come sort of alpha channel weirdness happens to a few. As I understand it saving as a DXT1 is what they do and it still puts black dots into it.. apparently they aren't using the 1 bit alpha either, but that is what is what happens< they get a 1 bit alpha, but it isn't blank like what happens when an alpha is created by the plugin usually, it's actually got some black dots in it.

So yeah, re open the dds and check the alpha channel

Well, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that I could not figure out the problem and the texture did not have an alpha channel to mess around with and the texture did not have a _d disfuse map file either. The good news is that I have become rather proficent at navigating photoshop textures so I have begun work on remaking the textures from scratch. The tests that I have run with priliminary colors do not have the peppered holing and actually look slightly better I think than the original retextures. Hopefully I can get that squared away quickly without any new surprises.

Moving on to my other problem, do you guys know how to make the skin appear properly without the black look that doesnt make the body disappear? I am really close to finishing the meshes on this armor set so I really want to get these sort of things taken care of quickly.

Thank you!
