Constant CTDs after installing OOO

I recently installed OOO and I started crashing while I was in imperial city. I used the mod conflict detector and found nothing wrong with my load order (according to it) I also have a tweaked .ini to prevent these things from happening. I also just reinstalled with no results...I even defragmented my disk drive and I still crashed. I turned down settings as well and of course, still crashed. Now on with my information to see if anyone can help me

Computer Specs: Windows XP service Pack 2

2 Gb of RAM

Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 clocked at 2.4 Ghz each (standard factory settings)

Nvidia Geforce 7950 GT

I play a bit lower than max settings (a bit lower resolution, actor fade / tree fade / grass fade is on, I use bloom lighting with the fake HDR mod lol)

Now heres my load order:

Oscuros oblivion overhaul.esp

I also have texians, colored map mod, and dark ui

Note that When I reinstalled I backed up my data and saves and deleted them in the main directories prior to reinstalling. Then I put them into the official ones. I deleted the .ess saves and converted the .bak files to .ess so it can't be corrupted saves

I also Scanned for malware (all taken care of)

I updated my drivers

My game is properly patched (I played this game fine before installing OOO)

I close all unnecessary background programs when playing

The game was also working for a little while but it started crashing about an hour after getting out of the sewers

You are in the right forum, it may be that no one has an answer. However, I will try.

Crashes are caused by many things. so we just try different things until one works.

Seemingly random crashes after playing for a period of time can be caused by overheating. Turn your video settings to minimum and see if you can play longer before it crashes.

Crashes in the same place are usually caused by a mod conflict.

I had crashing problems with the 2.0 version of streamline, the 3.1 beta seems to work better.

The DLC Horse armor also caused some problems.

When you reinstall, oblivion keeps your \data and saves. You deleted all of your old saves, but did you keep your original mods in the \data folder? I recommend renaming your original \data to something like \oldata before a reinstall. then starting and making a save before any mods, patches or ini changes. This initializes some things. then installing the latest patch - be sure to use the right patch for your language version there are 2 English patches for Oblivion - UK & US. and only one for SI. Then after patching again start the game and make a save.

At this point you will have a clean patched vanilla game. Make a copy of the \data folder and the saves folder somewhere as a backup. If you have room on your Hard drive, copy the entire \Bethesda Softworks folder to another location something like C:\Beth-backup - this will include the entire clean game and \data folder. Be sure to do the same with the \oblivion\saves in the documents and settings folder.

Play the vanilla game for a while to make sure it works before adding any mods.

Make a backup folder to put backups of your working \data and saves into. Then back them up periodically. And particularly when you are about to install a mod that makes a lot of changes in the game.

Thanks for the help so far guys :)

Ok so I just did the clean reinstall bben suggested. I started playing vanilla and it worked fine. Notably I could exit the game without crashing without hitting ctrl alt delete. (yes I saved to properly initialize it)

I then installed shivering Isles then the patch...

I then renamed my Olddata folder with all my mods and such before the reinstall and deleted the original install data folder. I also redid my ini completely using the tweakguides website instead of just replacing it with the pre tweaked one I already made (there could have been a problem)

I tried loading up the game again and I get the same crashes. Even with all the settings turned on low, I also get the exit game crash again. So It must be one of my mods or my oblivion just hates OOO. Does anyone see a problem in the load order?

I used a mod conflict detector and ignored inactive esps...it said nothing was wrong.

Im gonna try the thing you suggested now.

UPDATE: I used it and Kvatch Rebuilt Conflicted with OOO. I patched the mod to work with OOO (as it said in the instructions) but I still got CTDs after like 20 seconds. I then disabled the mod completely and it still crashed after a couple of seconds. There might be a conflict Im missing...

make it so that it loads EVERYTHING, ok? and if something doesn't work and its a load order problem, then it'll tell you which one to load first.

Yea chances are theres another conflict, use the thing again, its pretty effective.
