nivea
I've always wondered why no one has tried using text to speech software. I've been looking around for a bit, and some of the voices are passable. Sure, it won't sound like premium quality voice actors, but isn't that better than nothing? My thoughts on VA is, if you can not do it right....then do not do it at all! I prefer no VA over crappy VA. But hey I do not believe a mod needs VA to be a great mod, but then again I grew up on games where the most voicing you got was ARRRRGGGG when you where hit or hit somthing. Ianuarius
I'd be intrigued to do some voice acting. I've done a lot of singing (yeah, it's not the same thing) so I've got a proper mic for it (link). I could probably start with few lines to see how it goes. Just need a sound file from Skyrim for comparison to get the levels right while editing. I love the idea of doing Cyrodiil and Morrowind over and might even like to work in some quest/dungeon-mod. If they're too much "out there" (like flying sparkling mage castles) then I'm probably gonna have to decline. :) If your mod is almost ready or you just want some voice added to you're otherwise completed mod, drop me a PM. I won't promise quality, but I'll try my best!

Korodic
Anyone who wants to go through some tryouts... I'm working on 2 projects. Could use voice actors for either. One position is extremely necessary; an announcer! PM me with the subject "Voice Actor" and link me to a sample of your voice and we'll see where and if I can place you.
Ianuarius
Part of it at least is because lots of the people offering their voice acting services can't actually back it up. You need a decent microphone (read: not the one that came with your Xbox) for starters. I suspect another part is because the majority of really good quest mods, the ones where the modder put in time and thought and detail upon detail and even went so far as to wrangle voice acting talent ... those types of mods won't be made en mass until certain issues with the CK are fixed. I'm sure there are other reasons, but those two come to mind for me.I'm among the ones making a serious storyline for skyrim, and believe me. I haven't found a serious voice-actor yet. Everyone PMs me and then disappears O.o And also, believe me, serious questlines need lot of time to be completed. In 1 month (as a little noob modder) i made 2 quests. I'm trying to prevent every single possible action from a player, wich is really a long work ;) Oh man. I just contacted a person and offered to do some voice acting for his mod. The response was pretty much just telling the name and occupation of the character and then: "There isn't much more to say, i don't want to ruin all the questline by explaining everthing. Anyway you'll see something in the dialogues if you win the audition". What on earth is that all about? I'm just gonna post here what I wrote to him: Ohh, I thought that since everyone in the forum is complaining how amateurish the voice actors here are that they themselves would be a bit more professional. You can't act if you don't know what you're supposed to do. Let me explain. Say that NPC contacts the player and tells the player that he wants someone dead. His intention, however, is to get the player killed so he's sending the player to an ambush. When the player returns and contacts the NPC, his response is: "You killed him?" Now if the voice actor doesn't know the background, how well do you suppose they're gonna deliver the line? Also I don't really care about "do this and that and maybe you'll see something in the final product if you're lucky". Come on. Give the people around you a bit more respect. I can do a line of audition. Then, I suggest, that if I pass, I'll do the other lines from that same character. Or are you suggesting that 10 different voice actors do the lines for the same character and you just mix and mash them together later? So yeah. I'm willing to do a good job but that requires good work conditions. Not some guessing games and treating people like drones. See what I'm saying? maveric83eq
Lol I have a different problem, I have voice actors lined up and I hit a brick wall with scripting, My brain melts trying to figure it out. Soooo if anyone wants to help with scripting I have shittons of time to make mods setup quests etc. I just cant make something as simple as having a NPC walk 5 feet and talk to another NPC rofl. If I can get someone on board to help with that, I can start pumping out crap like crazy.
gasti89
@maveric83eq: i suggest you to do the CKwiki quest design toturial and reading the "Scenes" page. It really helped me figuring out the new diaogue/quest/NPCs behavior system. Basically the game works like this: - AI packages for alone actions (like go here and there, patrol, use a spell) - Scenes for action with other NPCs - Quests for eveything, even misc dialogues. For example, in my story, i have all the misc dialogues unrelated to quests in a standalone quest. And i make that quest advance with scripts in the other quests. Explaining everything in general would be a real pain. Read that tutorials, and if you have specific doubts/problems i'll be glad to help you if i can! kingchris20
I have a Samson meteor mic, is that a good enough mic for good VA?
maveric83eq
I have a Samson meteor mic, is that a good enough mic for good VA? On a note for the mic thing.. I have been recording over vent in a high quality codec and 50$ mics, It really just depends on how decent your mic is and if you can use audio editing programs decently. They have been coming out surprisingly good :P
Esteris
I have a Samson meteor mic, is that a good enough mic for good VA? I'd believe so. Usually most USB mics have proper quality. Pop-filters and sound-booths are important too to some though.
