Aithlyra
Hello! I was hoping that somebody might be able to help me change the way some of my spells look.I have been really wanting a destruction spell that looks a little more arcane rather than elemental... Something reminiscent of magic missile perhaps. What I was thinking was perhaps copying a single target fire spell such as Firebolt and changing the damage type to lightning and the spell sound to something more general from another school.I can do those parts myself and then duplicate it to make spells of different power and then add their tomes to the game. I do not know how to change the colour of the spell so that it would match my other changes. If I could make the firebolt more of a light blue perhaps...I have been able to edit the colours of robes in very simple ways and things like that before but I am really at a loss of how to do something like this so I would really appreciate any help! thumbincubation
It's been a long time since I've played with this at all, but if you extract your specific projectile mesh (for ex: Skyrim - Meshes1 > Magic > fireboltprojectile.nif) and start expanding the trees for the various components, you should start seeing the little color wheels. In that line, you should be able to right-click > color and choose a color. Or, I believe you can double click and input numeric values. I have no idea which nodes will appear which way in game, so you're probably going to end up testing in game a lot. What I'd suggest, to save you time, is start a new test mod. Put the nif in a safe place, copy/paste it into the appropriate meshes > magic folder, and work on the copy. Save, test, tweak as needed. If you get beyond repair, delete the mesh, copy/paste a new copy in, and start again. When you have it all set up and working, in your test mod (will change all the firebolts in the game, but just for ease of testing) then delete your test mod and save the new mesh with a unique name. Then, in your real mod, you can duplicate the firebolt magic effect, make whatever changes you want, and assign the projectile section to look for yours, rather than the vanilla. This is probably not exactly what you had in mind, but the Infernice portion of this mod combines the ice volley with a fireball projectile, for a sort of purple looking ball of hurt. You might dissect it for ideas or an idea of how the new magic effects would be set up. Hope it helps. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/7168
Aithlyra
Oh, there is no texture file for the firebolt then?(Or maybe SE is just different, I have only modded the first version of Skyrim before...) I will see if I can do that then, thank you very much for the instructions!Do I look for the colour wheels in the creation kit or do I need to open the .nif file? I will have a look at how that one works as well! They colours there are wonderful but if I can I would avoid having the solid ice-spike.
thumbincubation
There may be. I've never messed with it too much, but I didn't see a texture path, when I was making that one mod.

thumbincubation
I'm really over my head in all of it, too. What I was able to do was the result of hours of blind trial and error. That being said, where are you stuck? Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will see this and we can both benefit from it.
