If you are running Vista, there is a 'feature' called UAC that protects you from doing what you want to do. I'm sure that Microsoft meant well but maybe they went a little too far with this one.

Look here for instructions on how to turn it off. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/

i know about user access control (UAC) and i disabled it and re insatlled the game with no posoitve result , afterward i installed windows xp and re installed the game and the mods but still no good.

i copied the data folder from my brothers computer (where everything works perfect) and still didnt find the mods in game , but u can find them in obmm and oblivion launcher

the Data Files section where you checked the files is only because you have the .esp mod-files in the right place. But did you put the meshes and textures in the right place?... when i extracted the mods, they came with meshes and textures, u should put them all into 2 folders ONLY in the Data folder (in program files/bethesda/oblivion). you might have to copy paste the files (such as architecture, clutter, stuff of that sort) into the one meshes folder and the ones from the textures in the one Textures folder.

its tough, but i had a mod that wasnt working yesterday and its because i wanted to see if making a new folder within the Meshes folder would still allow the mod to work.

except whenever i would walk up to where the mod should be located, my game crashed.

EDIT: and bytheway, with vista, make sure your playing the game as administrator and have the proper rights.

I have been using the basic mod construction set instructions to try and learn how to make mods. I did a little with Morrowind successfully.

Anyway, in Oblivion, I followed the instructions to the letter when making my mod at the WawnetInn tavern. I made the changes, saved the changes, then went to Oblivion, set the plugin to "x", and began the game where I last saved it. It runs fine, but none of the changes appear.

I know this is probably a very simple thing, but I am completely stuck and out of ideas. I am currently using XP.

Thanks,

Scott :wallbash:

guys i really wanna thank u for trying to help me, but im sorry to tell u that everything is in place and everything is the way it should without the mods working . i cant beleive this is happening it even defies logic, re-installing the game plus windows xp SHOULD solve the problem . i looked in other forums and all i found was (UAC) related issues .

im taking this as a chance to pile up some mods downloaded about 23 new mod , its going to be a real waste if i dont play them

thank u again guys , hope somebody comes up with an answer

What you are describing is a common problem with Vista, but is not seen in XP. So, something is not right. You changed from Vista to xp, did you reformat the entire hard drive, change to a different PC, make your existing Vista machine a dual boot system or are you using some xp compatibility mode?

When you copied the mods, did you copy anything from the saved folder? Or the .ini file?

Both the data and OBMM can find the mods - or they wold not show up.

Have you made any changes to your ini file? And if so, which one? (there are 2 oblivion.ini files - they did that to confuse people)

When you installed Oblivion on the XP did you allow it to use the default paths? Or did you put Oblivion in a different place (such as G:\Oblivion) - a different hard drive letter and without using the \Bethesda Softworks folder? It can be installed on a different drive, but needs the Bethesda softworks\Oblivion\data structure.

What about saved games? are they working? Where are they located?

Just for practice, I have a very simple test mod I use in a tutorial on how to download and install mods. it is called bben_test_dagger and is located here: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16334

It is only an esp, no meshes textures or other files. - try that one and let me know what happens.

If you are interested, the tutorial is located here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/forum/256092/

Are you sure that you're looking for the effects of the mods in the right place? Some mods have effects that aren't readily visible. Also, please supply a load order (I think OBMM can help you). Why? Well mods can interact in interesting ways, one of them is overwriting each others changes.

I think you shold make a separate thread for this question. If you're in the same cell as you're editing, sometimes the edit will not appear ingame. But try to fasttravel to someware that's not Wawnet Inn (ie. Bravil) and then back to Wawnet Inn. Hopefully your changes appear!
